Chapter 26

"I want to do something fun today!!"

I woke up at 7 a.m. when Nia shouted that in her sleep. I barely slept after that. When Nia finally woke up at 11 a.m. from her good sleep, I was furious.

"Nia. I've been up since 7 a.m."
"Oh, why?"
"Why? Why! WHY?! BECAUSE YOU YELLED OUT LOUD WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING! THAT'S WHY!"

"Gosh, Maddie. Relax, it's not that big of a deal."
"Really? I would've wanted to SLEEP, I've had such a stressful time at school and with ballet. So I really would've wanted to have some sleep. Plus we are on our holiday now. But no, you ruin that too."
"And what else have I ruined?"
"I don't know. I'm just so mad at you."
"Hmm, okay. Well, maybe I'll go away then."
She put her hair in a bun and ran downstairs.
"And I mean, to downstairs to eat something. I'm not leaving your house."

I just rolled my eyes, shut them for a minute and opened them up two hours later.

"You slept well?" Nia asked and smiled.
"Mm, yeah. Sorry that I was so rude to you earlier. I've just had so much pressure and I'm so worried about Olga all the time..."
"No, it's fine. I'm sorry too."

We just looked at each other and Nia jumped to my bed to hug me.

Then we just chilled there for a while.
"As much as I want to stay in my bed, we have to get going soon", I said and started to get up.
"Why?" She asked with a confused face.

Oh crap, I didn't remember to tell Nia about us hanging out with Lily today.

"Lily is coming here soon", I decided to act like I had told it to her already.
"Why?"
"We're going to the bouldering factory, duh", I still tried to act as I had told her.

"What? Really? Us and Lily?? Why on Earth?" Nia crossed her arms."
"Oh, I didn't tell you? Yeah, I thought that we should hang out because you know... she doesn't have that many friends and because you're gradu.."

"Oh, I knew it! You will replace me with her! You're going to make her your new best friend and I will be pushed aside. Thanks a lot, Maddie."

Great. I needed this dramatic fight right now.

"No, Nia. You've misunderstood me. I just feel like that she should have more friends. And you like her too, right? You could never be replaced. You are my best friend and my sister. I love you so much and no one can ever be the same as you! You got me?"

Nia was quiet. Suddenly she started smiling.

"Ay ay, Captain", she said and laughed. I looked at her and laughed.
This captain thing is our inside thing. I'm the Captain who tells in the last hand what to do. And Nia is the Ma'am because I always called her Ma'am at one point.

"But seriously, do you understand me?" I said after we had laughed so much that our stomachs hurt.
"Of course. I love you too. Sorry that I was so impulsive", Nia said and hugged me.
"Well, you're Nia", I said and laughed.

Then the doorbell rang.

We both ran downstairs and opened the door at the same time.
"Hi, Lily! Come in!" We both said and laughed.
"Well, I have a nice welcoming! Thank you. It was nice that you wanted to hang out with me", Lily said.
"No problem. Of course, we don't want anyone to be bored or alone."

I noticed how Nia was still a bit jealous but I know that she will get over it with time. She knows that she is my best friend and will always be.
