VENUS
I'M STANDING in the middle of a Dauntless clothing store and most of the garments are quite revealing. Maybe I'm not used to the new style of clothing, which is probably true. Harmonie forced me into this, leaving me here whilst she looks for makeup. I roll my eyes and pull out a shirt.
It is black and long-sleeved, although cropped. There are a panel of holes in each arm and down the front, which would reveal a bra. It's lucky I have a black bra to wear, it's lucky the Pit is a dark place.
I find the ripped jeans I want, including some new combat boots.
Harmonie insisted that I attend the funeral. If I don't, she told me it would look suspicious. She is right.
When she returns, she has her own outfit and some makeup in her hand. I identify them as a dark plum lipstick, eyeliner, and mascara. It's neutral.
We pay and head back to get changed. It's 10:30PM, so most people are already in the Pit. And by most people, I mean all people.
Since the entire dormitories are free, we don't mind too much about privacy as we change into our new clothes. Harmonie applies lipstick to my lips before I can even stop her, running the eyeliner across my eyes and darkening my lashes with the mascara.
"Now look in the mirror!" She grins, pulling on her boots. I walk over to the mirror and gasp at my appearance. The girl I saw on my first day at Dauntless is still there, although her cheeks are bright with the rush Dauntless life provides. Her dark brown eyes pop and her lips look fuller.
Is this really me? It must be.
Just as we're about to leave, the door flings open, slamming against the back wall. Rhett stands there. He already looks intoxicated - his hair is slightly messy and his voice is slurred.
"What are you girls doing in here still? The party's already started down there!" He slurs, and I narrow my eyes at him.
"It's not a party, Rhett, it's a funeral." Harmonie rolls her eyes, brushing herself down. Rhett shrugs.
"Well, Eric's said his speech. Now everyone's drinking." He says. I let out a sigh of relief.
"Good. I didn't want to hear that speech, anyway." It's true. I never wanted to hear the speech, where Eric just feeds the compound lies about how much he loved Rebecca. If he loved her so much, he wouldn't have pushed her. It's as simple as that.
Rhett eyes me up and down, licking his lips, and I scowl across at him. "We all know why, don't we, Stiff?"
He knows why. At least, he thinks. He thinks I'm the one that murdered Rebecca. He thinks I'll feel guilty if I hear Eric's speech, but I won't.
"My eyes are up here, by the way." I snap, shoving past him and into the hallway. Harmonie follows me out.
My life has turned into an act, trying to act innocent over something I'm already innocent over.
[this is just a filler chapter, but look out for the next few chapters! some important stuff up ahead! love you all<3]
