I woke up to silence. There was no noise for once in four years. No zombies. No people yelling. No chaos. It was nice.
My feeling at ease feeling was ruined when I felt that a heavy weight was on me. I pried my eyes open to see 10K. He was laying on top of me. He wasn't awake yet. I looked around to see that we were in an SUV.
Everything that happened before I passed out came back to mind. Murphy must've been the one to set off the thing ,unless Dr Kurtz killed him and got away instead.
"Tommy." I whispered hoarsely, wanting to wake him up. He didn't move. "Tommy." I shook him lightly. He groaned and slowly opened his eyes. He smiled when he saw my face. I smiled back at him. "Are you okay?" I asked him.
"I'm fine. What about you?" He asked in his morning voice. I love his morning voice. I really do.
"Other than you currently crushing me, I'm fine." I teased him.
"Sorry." He apologized, starting to lift himself off of me.
"It's fine." I assured him. I heard someone else start to move. It was Warren. "You okay over there ,Roberta?" I asked her. She just groaned. "I'll take that as a yes." I told her.
10K then started to climb out of the SUV. It was currently upside down and smaller than I remember. After 10K was out, I started making my way out. I heard Warren doing the same.
As soon as I was out, 10K helped me stand up. He was looking over me for injuries. He brought his hand up to my face ,up by my forehead. I winced as he touched it. I took a deep breath and sent him what I hope was a reassuring smile.
"I'm fine ,Tommy." I whispered. He nodded. Then he leaned down and kissed me. I immediately kissed him back. He pulled away and rested his forehead against mine.
We heard someone groan. We both looked to see Doc trying to get out of the SUV. 10K and I went to help him out. He still groaned in pain as we got him out.
"Watch the shoulder." He warned us. We walked over to Warren. Then we saw something falling down like snow outside of the tunnel. It wasn't snow though. "Holy shit. Is that snow?" Doc asked.
"Nah, that's not snow." I said. I played in snow a lot as a kid ,it was my favorite, I know snow when I see it.
"That's ash. Radioactive fallout." Warren stated. She walked to a van that was also in the tunnel. "Here. We need to find stuff to cover ourselves before we go out in that radioactive fallout." She told us. 10K and I moved Doc to the van.
I started looking through the trunk. There was a black backpack. I found an oversized black zip up hoodie. I put it on over my makeshift crop top that I kept since Philly. There's not a lot of clothing choices now a days. I grabbed a green bandana that was in the bag as well. I tied it over my mouth and nose. Then I lifted my hood over my head. I grabbed a pair of black leather fingerless gloves and put them on.
10K came back with me and started shifting through the clothes as well. He grabbed a few things to cover his arms and face. He grabbed a couple things for Doc too. 10K sent me a smile before he went back to Doc with the stuff he grabbed.
Warren was still looking through the front for stuff. I don't think she was finding anything though.
"Warren!" I called. She looked over at me. "There's stuff back here." I told her.
She came back to the trunk while I went to Doc and 10K. They were trying to get themselves covered so we could go.
"How are you feelin' ,Doc?" I asked.
"Like I was shot and in a car accident." He mumbled.
"Ha ha." I mocked.
After a couple minutes, Warren walked up. I looked between the others to see they were all covered up. So I guess that meant we had to go out in the radioactive fallout. Fun.
