I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Addy. She sent me a sympathetic look. I looked back to 10K.
"How you holding up?" She asked me."I'm fine." I assured her. But he's not... I looked back to Addy. "Did you just come to check on me?" I asked.
"No. I wanted to tell you that we're going to town to look for some medicine. I wanted to check if you wanted to go too ,get out of here for a little while." She told me. My mind thought back to something I needed to get.
"Yeah. Sure." I told her. I stood from my place by 10K's bed. I leaned over and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. He looked over at me, seeming to just wake up. "I'll be right back okay?"
"Where are you going?" 10K tried to sit up. I pushed him back down gently.
"It's okay. I'm just going with Addy to find some antibiotics to help you." I told him.
"Please... Be. Careful." He breathed out. Then his eyes rolled to the back of his head and he was out again.
Addy, Vasquez, the Mennonite guy that's in charge, and I were the ones going. We went to a town not to far from the farm ,at least in the truck. I'd hate to walk it though. The Mennonite guy led us to a pharmacy. In a town, I doubt we would've found it without him.
Before we walked in, Vasquez whistled into the building. He was trying to see if zombies were in there. Nothing came at us so we walked in.
"Honey, I'm home!" Addy called out ,still trying to check if there was any zombies.
"Zombie." The Mennonite guy called out not very enthusiastically.
"Hey." Addy walked over to a table set up and grabbed a pen that was on it in a basket. "I lost my last pen. Four years ago. But hey, you never know. Emergency trache or something." She put the pen in her bag.
"You guys do a lot of those?" Vasquez asked.
"Uh, one or two." Addy answered.
I found the feminine hygiene section and started looking. I grabbed a couple bags of pads in case Warren or Addy needed any. There was surprisingly still a couple bags. Then I grabbed what I really came for. I hid the two boxes in one off my big pant pockets.
I went and found Vasquez in a different aisle. I walked over to him. I decided I should just get this over with before I'm back with everyone so I had to let someone know I wasn't in with them anymore.
"Hey. I'll be right back. I need to step out." I told him.
"Why?" He asked. I thought I saw worry in his eyes before he covered it up.
"I just have to pee." I told him the first excuse that popped in my mind. It was true at least. I really did have to pee.
"Okay. Hurry though." He told me sternly.
"Yeah, of course." I assured him.
I went out into the small forest behind the store. I looked and listened for any signs of either people or zombies. Once I was satisfied, I pulled the boxes from my pocket. I took the sticks out of the boxes.
I took the tests. I then leaned against a tree nearby. I count to 60 a total of 3 times. Then I looked the stupid little plastic pieces.
I felt the air get sucked out of my lungs. There were two blue lines on both of them. Positive.
I felt tears well up in my eyes. I can't be. I'm just about 19 now ,I think, and we're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. We're already about to have one baby ,we don't need another pregnant lady. Plus right now 10K is in with a sickness from anthrax. And we talked about having kids but after getting Murphy to California so we could head north.
