"Doc!" Vasquez called. Doc ran out. "Her water just broke."
"Oh, uh, well. Let's just get you inside." Doc said. He put a hand on Chris' upper back and led her inside. "Auntie!" Doc called. Auntie came out by them. "By any chance, do you have a place she can have her baby?"
"Um, I'm sure we can make a place. Here. Let's go in the back." Auntie said.
She led them to the back. Their were tables back here too but it didn't look like it was used as much. She left for a moment and came back with blankets.
"Let's make a bed right here. No customers come back here." Auntie told them. Chris nodded.
Doc and Auntie made the bed. Chris stood there awkwardly. Once they were finished, they stood up.
"I'll get her ready. You go help the others again." Auntie told Doc.
Doc nodded and left quickly. Chris chuckled.
'I think Serena's birth scarred him.' Chris thought.
"Come on ,dear, we need to get your pants off." Auntie told Chris. Chris got on the bed and raised her hips to take off the pants. She had to take off her underwear too. Auntie got her a sheet to use to cover her lower half. "So those Braxton Hick Contractions were just regular contractions?"
"I guess. They've been progressing too. You know, getting worse." Chris told her. She nodded.
"You just need to rest a bit until you're fully dilated." Auntie told Chris. Chris nodded. Auntie left the room.
Now that Chris was left on her own doing nothing except focusing on the contractions, they felt felt even worse than before. And they kept getting worse as the day progressed.
After what felt like hours, Chris heard gunshots. She tried to sit up but couldn't.
"Doc!" Chris called. She didn't get an answer. "Doc!" She called louder. There was still no response.
Chris could still hear guns being fired outside. They were automatics. There were quite a few of them too.
"Warren!" Chris tried. No one came.
It was quiet for a moment. Then the gunshots started again. They got slightly louder. Then Chris heard the front door slam shut.
Chris yelled in pain as another contraction hit. As soon as Doc heard her yelling, he started running back to her.
"You okay ,kid?" Doc asked.
"What the hell's goin' on?" Chris asked once the contraction eased.
"The Zeros found us." Doc informed her.
"They're here?!" Chris exclaimed. She reached for her pants, feeling the need to get up and help.
"Chris, stop. You can't fight while you're in labor." Doc told her.
Chris sighed as she stopped what she was doing. He was right. She definitely couldn't fight them now.
"We need to move you though. You're a sitting duck in here." Doc said. Chris agreed. "I'll be right back."
Doc ran out of the room. Another contraction hit, making Chris whimper. She was trying to be quiet now.
By the time Doc came back, the contraction was easing. He was alone. The other room was quiet and so was outside.
"We don't have much to work with. We'll have to make do with what what have." Doc told her.
Doc went and helped Chris stand up. Chris made sure to hold the sheet around her. Doc grabbed a couple pillows she had.
