Petra's POV.
It was such an ordinary day that I was, once again, dying at my boring job in the hot office. The air conditionings were broken, so I opened a window. Well, at least now it was bearable to breathe.
Hours were passing by, I was still doing some paperwork and wishing for something, anything interesting to happen today! When I was signing up for the job as a police officer I was thinking that my days would be all exciting, filled with chasing down and arresting criminals. Not looking at reports of stolen books, too loud cats or vandalism. Turned out that Beacon Town was such a lovely and peaceful place that the most criminal thing there was vandalism.
Suddenly a door to my office opened. I looked up, only to see a tall man in his fifties. He was wearing his uniform, had long beard and a black eye patch. I smiled, sighing, as he leaned at the door and chuckled.
- Hey, Jack. - I said stretching my arms. - How are you doing?
- Fine. - He answered. - How 'bout you, partner? Feelin' good?- Okay. - I shrugged, standing up from my desk. - Let me guess, nothing interesting?
- Nah. - Jack shook his head. - Only Aiden Murphy and his gang are once again caught for drawing graffity on the school building. Otherways, everything's clear.
- These teens. - I rolled my eyes at the mention of Aiden. - When will they learn? It's like, what, the seventh time we've caught them?
My partner scoffed, hiding his laughter. I raised an eyebrow, staring at him. What was that supposed to mean?!- You do realise you're not much older than they, right? - He asked. I giggled - for my age I was too adult-like.
- Yeah, yeah. - I grabbed my leather jacket. - Look, you mind replacing me? I'll die if I don't feel some fresh air right now.
- Sure, sure. - Jack nodded. - Nothing interesting is going to happen, anyway. Might as well buy some donuts.I thanked him and left the building, passing three teenagers, covered in paint. They were just boringly sitting at their chairs, and the brown-headed boy with lime eyes had his wrist cuffed to the table. I looked at officer Lukas near the three, and he nodded, showing that everything was okay. Of course, it was. It was such a provincial life that nothing more exciting never happened.
I took a deep breath, feeling cool fresh air inside my lungs. It felt good to be outside, so I wasn't hurrying to come back inside, in the stuffy office. Jack was right - I was feeling a bit hungry, so I decided to go buy some donuts. Lucky for me, the bakery was two blocks away from the station, so I had a great walk ahead of me.
I was walking through the town, enjoying the feeling of the warm spring sun on my jacket. Nothing was wrong, our town was the most peaceful place...
- THIEF!I harsly turned around at the scream and the sound of the broken window. My heart skipped a beat when I saw our local engineer, Olivia, chasing down some person in black hoodie. At last!
- Stop! - I shouted to the thief, starting running. - Stop right now!
Of course, they didn't pay attention to me. I nodded Olivia, showing that everything was fine, and continued my race.I must admit it, the thief was fast and knew some secret ways I had no idea existed. They turned right and then left, but I didn't lagg behind. My adrenalin was making me run even faster and faster, as I pulled out my sword and slided under some boxes.
We were running for what seemed like forever, before the thief made a huge mistake. At one point they seemed to forget their way as they turned right, not left. I grinned as I realised it was my chance.I turned right and saw the criminal. They were standing near the wall of a building, in a certain dead-end... With me at the only exit. I smirked, getting handcuffs out from my inventory.
- I am police officer Petra Showdown. - I said, pointing my sword at the thief. - You've commited a crime. Put your hands in the air and you won't be hurt! The person hesitated for a second, before putting their hands in the air and slowly walking towards me. I smiled proudly... But it was too early.
Suddenly a thief broke into running again, passing me. I groaned and ran behind them. To be fair, it was harder for me to breathe, but I didn't pay attention. When the moment presented itself, I didn't wait. In one swift motion I jumped forward and tuckled the thief onto the ground. They yelped and tried to push me off them, but I fought back and finally put a sword to their neck. They froze in place, as I pressed the blade closer.
- Could've just surrendered. - I growled, cuffing their wrists in front of them. Then I stood up and pulled the thief onto their feet. They didn't fight back, even when the hood fell off their head. I saw a boy probably my age, he had caramel brown hair and deep green eyes. I gasped in realisation - the brother of that guy had just been arrested for vandalism!
- Jesse Murphy. - I said, my voice flat and serious. - You're under arrest for stealing. Give me what you've stolen and the court will take that into account.- Sorry. - Jesse grinned. - No can do. I can't give you back your heart, you see.
- What? - I asked, confused. What did he mean, my heart?
Then, all of a sudden, the thief pushed his head forward so his lips met mine.I've expected anything but that, so I didn't react at all! I was just standing there, kissing the complete and total stranger, no, criminal! And the worst part of all - I was enjoying it.
Then, in a moment, Jesse let go and harsly turned around, running away. I was so taken aback by our kiss that I didn't react at all. I felt my cheeks blushing and my heart beating fast. Something was telling me I would see this Jesse again.
