Xara's POV.

I screamed in irritation as my wooden axe broke in the middle and disappeared in white smoke. Again. Growling something, I kicked the stone wall of a building with all my might. The pain that spread through my arm helped to calm me down, as I started walking back. Why the heck are wooden instruments so fragile?! Oh, there was time when I could repair Oasis in a nick of time of I wanted to!

I looked around at my abandoned city, sighing sadly. It seemed like only yesterday this whole place was alive and full of happy, cheerful people who enjoyed the warmth of sun. And now? I huffed, looking at the wet bedrock above me. Maybe, after I rebuild Oasis, I could take a break and go to the upper world? See Jesse, others, feel the sun on my pale skin? Like a vacantion or something.

I started humming some sort of an ancient song, digging in the chest in order to find some more resourses for instruments. My bow was in great condition, although I could really use a new string. And I was about to run out of arrows, I had only two left... Hold on, what's that under this pile of sticks? Okay, three arrows... Still not enough to fight properly. How am I supposed to repair my city if I always lack something?

I groaned and sat on the crafting table, looking up. Where once upon a time used to be endless sky, for the last century or so I only saw the roof. Was it either the ceiling in my cell or the goddamn bedrock, I was never actually free to get away from it. Thanks again, Romeo, you slimeball!

The funniest thing if all? Despite I remembered everything clearly, I couldn't hate him anymore. I tried to convince myself that he was nothing but a heartless monster, tried to make myself experience the fury - nothing worked for more than half of hour. And though I wanted to hate him, no, needed to hate him, I simply couldn't. Guess, time actually heals, huh?

All of a sudden a loud screech interrupted my thoughts. My head snapped up, and I found myself face to face to a smelly spider with bloody-red eyes. For a second it was staring at me, before hissing and attacking, its mandibles leaking with slimy saliva.
- Whoa! - I instantly rolled to the side and took out my bow. Oh, good!

All the arrows were in the chest, behind the monster.

- Take that, you beast! - I yelled as it leaped at me once again and hit it with my weapon. It only shook its head and screeched one more time, jumping at me, I braced myself to run for the chest...
- NO! - Loud scream echoed through the whole Oasis, and something small hit the spider right in one of its eyes. It hissed in fury and pain and jumped - but not at me.

Not caring to look around, I grabbed the arrows and aimed at the monster. It was ten feet away from me, circling around a man, who seemed to be too weak to even stand properly.
- On the ground! - I shouted as the spider jumped at the man, but he listened. In exact same moment I released an arrow, silent swoosh - and the monster is beating on the ground in agony, an arrow pierced through its whole body.

The second it disappeared in white smoke, leaving only some string behind, I rushed towards the man. He was laying on the cold stone, not stirring at all.
Okay, this wasn't right, was it? I knelt down next to him and checked the pulse on the side of his neck. Ah-huh, he's just uncontious...

Only then I managed to take a good look on the man. He was painfully pale, maybe, even paler than I was - and that meant a lot. His skin was covered in bruises and scars, his gray T-shirt and blue pants were all full of holes, and it certainly looked like a miracle that a person like this managed to survive in the Underneath at all. I carefully petted his stomach and cringed at how great I could feel his ribs. Was this man not eating for a year or so?

But as I flipped him over to examine his face, I gasped and instinctively grabbed an arrow. It didn't matter it was dark, it didn't matter this was a human - I couldn't forget those bloody-red hair and that goatee, which always seemed ridiculous to me. Fury finally boiled inside me at the sight of Romeo, so weak and defenceless.
- Finally. - I growled, putting the arrow to his chest. - After all this time!
