Jesse's POV.

"Come on, dummy! It will be fun!"

I sighed, knowing far too well that everything Petra described as 'fun' usually meant that somebody would get hurt in a couple of hours. The heavy elytra wings behind my back slowed me down quite a lot, but she didn't seem to care. I only rolled my eyes as she began jumping up and  down impatiently, fiddling with straps of her own wings. She hadn't tightened them properly on her right shoulder, so now the elytra was hanging very loosely on her.

"Can't you be a little bit more careful?" I sighed, pulling on her straps to tighten them up. My friend just chuckled nervously, something she did when she was very, very excited. "If you take off like that you'll be down on the ground in a few seconds."

"Or maybe it'll help me soar higher." She argued, like always, but to my luck didn't fight me too much. Her eyes were locked on the horizon. "You've only flown once yourself, you can't say that you're an expert in this."

I took a deep breath, shivering slightly due to the cold air and cold air only. Well, maybe because of fear as well. Not like I was terrified, really, I had already done it after all, just...

Oh who am I kidding, the idea freaked me out.

"And that's exactly why you shouldn't get too excited." I murmured, making sure it was loud enough for Petra to hear. "Who knows what's gonna happen up there? One of us might lose control over the wings, and what will we do then, huh? Besides, securing them properly will definitely do us no harm whatsoever."

I had to admit, her energy and impatience always got on my nerves, especially when because of them somebody could get hurt. That's not what either of us wanted, I was sure of that. But she didn't even seem to care that only a few people had ever done this before us and these wings were still new. Nobody could be sure the flight would end as nicely as we - well, I - wanted it to.

"You've done it, Jesse!" She looked at me with a huge grin, and I was pretty sure that, by the looks of it, the thrill had already conquered the power over her mind. Great. Now I couldn't do anything about it. "Don't tell me that flying for the first time right above your sworn enemy with fireworks in your hands was less scary than this."

I didn't say a word, mostly because it actually had been less scary. When I soared towards Romeo's huge floating tower I was filled with adrenaline to the brim, so it was no wonder I hadn't felt that much fear. Besides, we didn't really have another choice back then. Now? Now was a completely different story.

"But what if one of us falls down?!" I exclaimed, just allowing my frustration to get the best of my self-control. "What if we injure ourselves? O-or winds carry us away from Beacon Town and we get lost and-"

"And mushrooms grow on my tongue." Petra rolled her eyes again, her impatience slowly starting to turn into irritation. "Come on, Jesse, we've talked about that! After fighting with so many evil creatures I'm sure we'll be fine after a short flight."

At this I had to sigh but nod silently, she was right. It was truly a miracle that we had both survived the Wither Storm, not mentioning every single villain after that. I glanced down from the roof of the Order Hall and gulped, seing the ground so far away from me. Okay. Maybe we were supposed to start from some smaller building, like Lukas's cottage? That's not too high, we would be fine even if something went wrong.

"Okay." I gave in, knowing that at this point there was nothing that could convince my friend to reconsider. She would rather die than wait for the sun to rise and do it in more safety, and she would never forgive herself if she chose a smaller building to jump from. I fixed the wings behind my back, their smooth grey surface a little bit reassuring. At least they were made by a professional, they shouldn't break to pieces in the air.
