Chapter Eight: The Brooms

Hiccup woke early the next morning and bolted out of bed. He dressed quickly and, without waking Jack, hurried down to the Common Room. Astrid was already there with a grumpy looking Rapunazel.
"So, why did you two get up so early this morning?" Rapunazel asked sleepily.
"Because we were told that our brooms might be in the Great Hall this morning!" Hiccup and Astrid cried out together.
"We had this planned. We were going to sit down here and talk about what we think our brooms will be like until you and Jack woke up and we went to the Great Hall to eat." Hiccup explained.
Just then Jack stumbled down the stairs and snow came from his staff and froze Hiccup.
"Hiccup!" Astrid gasped. "I will kill you if you don't unfreeze him this instant!" She growled at Jack. Jack unfroze Hiccup and all was well. They had to explain why they where up so early to Jack. They went down to the Great Hall, and sat down. There was food on the table and other people were there eating, so Jack and Rapunazel starting eating, but Hiccup and Astrid didn't.
"Come on, guys. You have to eat something, and I'm sure the brooms will be here soon." Rapunazel whispered. So Hiccup and Astrid started eating, and soon everyone was in the Great Hall eating breakfast. Then the owls came. There were two big packages for Hiccup and Astrid. The note with them said, "Don't open these at the table." So, since they were already done eating breakfast because they had started eating early, all four of them hurried up to the Common Room, but the way was blocked by Alvin, who was also a first year, but he was in Slytherin.
"What do you we have here?" Alvin growled. He was about to take the brooms from them from when Angus, the care taker, came up.
"Trying to steal again, are we?" He asked Alvin before dragging him away.
"That was close." Hiccup said. The others nodded their agreement. They went to the Common Room then, and opened the packages. The brooms were the latest modals, the Midnight Spine and the Midnight Plasma Blast.
"Wow." Astrid breathed. "A Midnight Spine."
"I wonder what the difference between the two are." Hiccup said, looking both brooms over.
"I think that the only difference is the name and color." Astrid said.
"Look at the tag." Rapunazel said. "It says that you can get your broom changed to the color of your choice."
"On Saturday we'll do that." Hiccup said.
"Mine's going to look like Stormfly!" Astrid said excitedly.
Saturday
They got permission to leave on Stormfly and Toothless to go and get their brooms to look the way that they chose. They took Jack and Rapunazel with them. Astrid went in the store first.
"May I please have my broom colored like my dragon, Stormfly? She's right outside, if you want to see what colors she is." The woman went outside and colored Astrid's broom right there.
"What House are you in?" She asked.
"Gryffindor." Astrid said. When she was done, Hiccup handed his broom to her and said "Please color my broom the same way, except in the colors of my dragon, Toothless." The woman did so and watched them leave. Hiccup's broom was black with red and gold lettering. The tail of the broom was purple, the color of a plasma blast. Astrid's broom was light blue and purple with red and gold lettering, like Hiccup's, but with a red-orange tail, like the fire the Stormfly shoots from her mouth.
