Chapter Eighteen: The Fight with Pitch

Astrid looked down as a chain wrapped around her legs.

"Stormfly!" She called, trying to break free of the black mist-chain. Stormfly was too busy fighting the nightmares to hear her, and then Astrid remembered the mini axe that Hiccup had given her. He had one himself. She pulled it out of her boot and quickly cut through the chain and ran to Hiccup, who looked like he was about to faint from battling at least 100 nightmares by himself. Jack was helping Rap, and Toothless and Stormfly were doing their best to keep the nightmares away from the rest of the kids and teachers.

"Do you really think that you will be able defeat me? By sunrise, you will all be dead, and all of them along with you!" Pitch yelled, spreading out his arms to include the whole school.

"Wait, that's right. Hiccup and his night fury aren't going to die. They are going to Alvin!" Next to Astrid, Hiccup froze. He had been tortured by Alvin more than once and certainly didn't want to be tortured again.

"Don't worry, Hiccup. We will beat Pitch and you won't go to Alvin." Astrid whispered, squeezing his hand gently. Toothless and Stormfly came over and began to fight the nightmares by them.

"Stormfly, go help Rap." Astrid ordered and Stormfly bounded away. Soon more then half of the nightmares were dead. In a few more minutes, they would fight Pitch. Then the rest of the nightmares disappeared, sent away by Pitch. Rap flew at Pitch and hit him with a frying pan. "Where did she get the frying pan?" Astrid thought. Pitch just flicked his hand and Rap passed out. Then Hiccup did the most surprising thing. He charged Pitch and took him by surprise, nearly killing him.

"You're annoying, boy. If I hadn't been promised people who believe in me and fear me, I wouldn't keep you alive." Pitch said, then he threw Hiccup to the floor, making him pass out. Astrid attacked with Stormfly and Toothless, only to wake Hiccup up. Jack froze Pitch and Hiccup had Toothless use a plasma blast. By the time Pitch had disappeared fully, everyone was awake. The teachers cleaned up the Great Hall with a wave of their wands, and everyone started dancing again. Astrid looked over and saw Rap dancing with Jack.

"Let's dance." Astrid told Hiccup.

"With who?" He asked, clearly still dazed from hitting the floor the way he had.

"Me, Dragon Breath." Astrid said, punching him. After about three hours of Halloween fun, Professor Potter got everyone's attention and said, "Tomorrow at dinner the votes will be read. Now, off to bed, all of you." They went to the Gryffindor Tower and Hiccup kissed Astrid on the cheek.

"Night, Astrid."

"Night, Dragon Breath."
