Chapter 21: Back at Hogwarts

"We're safe for now bud." Hiccup patted Toothless' head. They soon caught up to Astrid even though she had at least a five mile head start.

"I was wondering when you two would show up." Astrid chuckled. They flew in silence for a while.

"Look! There's the castle!" Hiccup exclaimed as he pointed at the dark shape in the distance.

"Race you there!" Astrid challenged.

"You're on!" They took off and reached Hogwarts in about five minutes, Hiccup and Toothless winning, of course.

"Hey, look, there's Rap and Jack." Astrid said as she flew in next to him.

"All right, than, I guess we know where we're going to land." Hiccup said. Jack and Rap were talking, so they scared them when they landed right next to them.

"Ahh! Oh, it's just you two." Jack and Rap yelled as they jumped.

"I'm glad you both made it back safe." Rap whispered as she hugged them both.

"Yeah, yeah. Let's go inside. I'm hungry and it's dinner time." Jack complained.

"Toothless, Stormfly, to the Forbidden Forest." Hiccup ordered. Both the dragons obeyed and ran into the forest.

"All right, let's go in now." Astrid said. Jack started running to the school, with them following close behind.

"Well, the food is better than what I had for lunch today."

"Yeah, but at least you didn't have prison food for lunch." Hiccup muttered.

"Your dad made you eat that stuff?" Astrid asked, shocked. While the rest of the kids had gone to the Great Hall for lunch, Hiccup had been in his cell, eating what was considered 'food' for prisoners.

"Of course he did. I think that he thought that it would teach me a lesson, telling me that since I disappeared knowing that he would not let me go in the first place." Hiccup explained.

"Wow. I thought that he might let you off the hook or something, 'cause you're his son." Astrid said.

"When has my father ever let me off the hook?" Hiccup questioned. Jack and Rap just sat eating and listening rather awkwardly to this conversion.

"Hiccup?" Rap whispered.

"Yeah?"

"Does your dad starve you?"

"No. He wouldn't do that." Hiccup's tone made it clear that the subject was closed, at least until he was ready to talk about it.

The next morning on Berk

"Where is Hiccup?" Stoick bellowed.

"Is he not in his cell, sir?" Fishlegs asked.

"He and Toothless are gone. Did any of you help him out of his cell?"

"No." Fishlegs and the twins and Snotlout answered. The twins and Fishlegs were telling the truth, they had not helped Hiccup out of his cell.

"What are we talking about, chief?" Gobber came up and asked.

"Hiccup. He has disappeared again." Stoick stated.

"Well, you know the boy. He'll have figured a way out." Gobber pointed out.

"I suppose you're right." Stoick sighed and walked away.

"Your secret's safe with me, kids." Gobber winked at them as he walked back to the forge.

After stuffing themselves full, they headed up to the Common Room. Hiccup and Astrid went off into one corner to talk about what Rap had said earlier.

"Should we tell them? I mean, he did starve you, in a way." Astrid said.

"No. We can't tell them."

"You eat less than any of us!" Astrid protested.

"Now that's my own choice, Astrid."

"So you're starving yourself?"

"No, that's just the amount I'm used to eating. You know that I threw up the first few days because I ate more than I'm used to. I can't eat that much."

"I'm starting to believe that you were starved."

"All right, I was when I was younger. I was so short and small that my dad forgot about me and I couldn't reach the food on the table. My head didn't even reach the top of the chair back then."

Rap and Jack had started wondering what they had been talking about for the past five minutes, and walked over to find out.

"Hiccup was starved!" Rap whispered.

"His dad didn't mean to starve him, you heard what he said." Jack whispered back.

"We're right here, we can hear you and I'm going to bed." Hiccup said as he walked away.

"Hiccup has never been on the best terms with his father and knows he will be punished when we go back to Berk."

"How?" Jack and Rap asked simultaneously.

"Not being allowed to fly for while, stuff like that." Astrid had said that because she knew the real punishment. Hiccup would only have one meal a day until his father ended the punishment.

"Now, I'm going to go to bed too. Night." Astrid called over her shoulder as she walked away.

"Let's go to bed. Maybe we'll be able to get them to tell us more." Jack said. They headed off to bed as well, only to find that they were asleep already.
