The four of them stood together and all of the other first years milled around them as they entered the Great Hall. Jack was called first.

"Good." he thought. "I just want to get this over with."

So Jack walked up to the Sorting Hat and put it on his head. The Hat spoke in his mind, saying "Hufflepuff, perhaps. Perhaps Ravenclaw, but no, he is not smart enough for that. Slytherin, no, there is no evil in him, only jokes and fun. So that leaves... Gryffindor!" Jack heard the Hat shout the word to the whole hall, and the Gryiffindor table was cheering and clapping. He got up from the stool, took the Hat off and walked to the Gryffindor table and sat down. He was clapped on the back. He saw that Rapunazel, Astrid and Hiccup were smiling and clapping for him too. Then Rapunazel was called up. At least, the line was shorter, so he knew had had been awhile, but they weren't listening to those names. Only theirs and their friend's names. Rapunazel had walked up to the Hat and put it on.

"Put her in Gryffindor. Put her in Gryffindor." Jack thought.
