Chapter 26: Midnight Meeting

(Hiccup's POV)

Why would Astrid do that to me? I'd tried telling her earlier, but she wouldn't listen. Then Rap told me that she thought Astrid liked me. I sighed as an owl landed on my head. 

Hiccup, 

Meet me in the Common Room at midnight. I'll tell you everything then. Please don't talk to me until then though. I'm trying to sort my feelings out, and from what Rap told me, you problary don't want to talk to me anyway. But please be there.

I hoped we could be more then friends, Astrid, and maybe we still can, but it might take time. I went to write a letter back to Astrid when two more papers fell out. One was to Astrid, from her parents. I read that one first. 

Darling Astrid,

I know that you won't be happy with it, but when you have finished your seven years at Hogwarts, you are to wed Snotlout. Your father was foolish and bet your hand in marriage, and you know your father. He almost always loses. Unless you can find a way around it, which I think you can and will, you are marrying Snotlout. I know that you have lways wanted to marry Hiccup, and from what Stoick has told me, he wishes to wed you as well. I know that the two of you will find some way out of this, as you always do. 

Love from your mother.

The third paper fluttered to the floor, forgotten. The nerve of her father! I bet that Astrid has read this already. I guess I'll find out at midnight.

(Astrid's POV)

I was pacing my room, waiting for midnight to come. While I paced, I thought about the first line of my mother's letter. I have to get married to Snotlout! The very thought of it makes me want to puke.

(Hiccup's POV)

I slid out of bed, fully dressed. I opened the door carefully, so I wouldn't wake Jack, and slipped into the hallway. I made my way down the stairs, the letter from Astrid's mother clutched in my hand. I saw a figure standing by the fire.

"Astrid."  I said softly.

"Good. You're here. We really need to talk, Hiccup. I'm sorry for earlier-" She cut off mid-sentence, looking at the paper in my hands.

"The letter from my mother. You read the whole thing, didn't you? " When I nodded, she continued. "I only read the first line." I handed her the letter and she read the rest of it.

"Really, Dad! Did you have to do that? She said to herself before turning to me.

"You know what this means, right?" I nodded again. Then there were footsteps on the stairs.

"I love you, Hiccup." Astrid said quickly before she kissed me and disappeared up the stairs. I stood there in shock for a moment, until the footsteps came closer and then I ran back up to my dorm. Little did I know that someone had been watching us the whole time.

(Skyla's POV)

Rap let me in, and I filmed the whole thing! OMG, they are so cute together. Well, better get back to the Ravenclaw Common Room before anyone notices my absence.

(Astrid_Jackson's POV)
