Astrid would not leave the Hospital Wing unless Jack and Rap made her. She went to class with them, but only because she had to. She ate almost nothing and slept only when Jack had her frozen to the floor in the boys' dorm and she couldn't get out. Even then, she didn't sleep often. When she did fall asleep, Jack was allowed to carry her to the girls' dorm and put her in her bed. This went on for 3 weeks. Then, on a Monday morning, during double Potions, Professor Potter rushed in and said "Professor Malfoy, will you, Jack, Rapunazel, and Astrid please come with me to the Hospital Wing?"

"Certainly." Professor Malfoy knew what was going on, and at soon as they were out of the classroom, she hugged each of them for only a second and whispered in their ears "I'm sorry." She didn't say what for, but they would find out. They were led to the Hospital Wing. Astrid didn't know what was going on, but Jack and Rap knew. They had been told on Friday during Tranfiguration, but Astrid hadn't. The teachers didn't know how she'd react, so they didn't tell her. Hiccup had wavering between life and death for the last week. Rap had figured it out before they were told. Hiccup had been responding less and less to Astrid's touch as the days went on. They entered the Hospital Wing and saw Hiccup lying in the same bed he had been in for the past 3 weeks.

"Astrid, Jack, Rapunazel, I have some very sad news for you. Hiccup's dead." Professor Potter said.

"What?" Astrid whispered with tears streaming down her face. Jack and Rap had been expecting this for 3 days. She ran to Hiccup's bed and sat on the edge.

"No. No. This wasn't supposed to happen. It was meant to be me!" Astrid sobbed. They had no idea that what she had just said was true. Gothi had told her that at Hogwarts, she would get hurt and maybe die. But then she realized what it meant. She was hurt, just not physically. Maybe she would die of sadness. Rap and Jack came over. It took an hour before they were able to get Astrid to leave, but before they left, Jack said sadly "Bye, Hic. Maybe I'll see you as a spirit someday." Then Rap said, "Even through I didn't know you that long, you were a good friend." Jack and Rap were almost to the doors when they realized Astrid wasn't with them.

"Goodbye Hiccup. I have always loved you and always will." Astrid whispered. Then she kissed Hiccup gently on the lips. She left with the others for CMC.

At dinner, Astrid was playing with her food and not eating it like Rap was trying to get her to do. Then Professor Potter and Professor Malfoy stood up.

"As you all know, Hiccup was struck down by lightning during a Quidditch match. Well, we have some news regarding Hiccup." Professor Potter said as she sat down and nodded to Professor Malfoy.

"I regret to tell you all this, but the wonderful Gryffindor Seeker, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, has died. I offer my condolences to all who knew him." Professor Malfoy said before sitting down to hide the tears in her eyes. Then, the doors the Great Hall creaked open and a male figure stepped in. Astrid, who had looked up at the creak of the door, saw something that should not have been possible. It was Hiccup! "But he's probably a ghost." She thought sadly. Hiccup began walking towards the Gryffindor table. When he reached Astrid, he stopped. Now, if she looked, she would be able to see him better. He was as pale as he had been earlier in the day. Astrid had stopped paying attention, thinking that he was a ghost, but then she felt someone touch her shoulder and turned to look. It was Hiccup, and he wasn't a ghost! Everyone was watching at this point, waiting to see what would happen.

"Hiccup! You're alive! Th-they said that you were dead." Astrid whispered in shock.

"I was, but I sent back here alive because you needed me." Hiccup replied, whispering as Astrid had. Then Astrid punched him, hard, on the arm.

"That's for scaring me again." She said, loud enough for everyone to hear. Then she grabbed the front of Hiccup's robes and kissed him.

"Well, it appears that, by some miracle, Hiccup is alive, and I have another announcement to make. Tomorrow is Halloween, there are still classes, but there will be a Halloween ball." Professor Potter said.
