Chapter Fourteen: Bad News

Jack walked in and Rap sent him a look that said, "Don't you dare bring up Hiccup unless Astrid brings him up first."

"Jack, did any of the teachers come talk to you about Hiccup?" Astrid asked, her eyes red from crying.

"Yes, actually. I know that this will upset you but here it is: Hiccup is in a coma." Jack replied and he was about to go on, but Astrid cut him off.

"But they can get him out of it, right?" Astrid asked, excited now.

"No, Astrid, they can't. A Healer at St. Mungo's came in and said that she didn't know what is was. Hiccup is going to die, Astrid." Jack said, his voice cracking as he said the words aloud. Astrid just stared at him. At this point, almost all of the Gryffindors were in the Common Room. They had heard all of it. Then Astrid flew at Jack and attacked him, crying.

"Astrid, we can go see Hiccup right now if you want." Jack said, hoping it would calm her down. It did. She drew back and stopped attacking him. They left the Common Room and the kids parted to let Astrid and her friends through. No one wanted to deal with this girl beating them up. They walked to the Hospital Wing and were allowed in. Little did they know that their teachers had followed them. Astrid sat on the stool next to Hiccup's bed and held his hand as she stroked his forehead. Then Rap noticed something. Hiccup was moving. It was only a little bit, but he was griping Astrid's hand and moving the fingers on his other hand. He was breathing faster too.

"Astrid, look! Hiccup's moving under your touch. Let me try and see what happens." Rap said as she stroked Hiccup's forehead. Nothing happened.

"It must be like in one of the books I've read! The boy falls into what they call a 'love coma' and doesn't wake up until he's died and the girl kisses him goodbye on the lips." Rap exclaimed.

"Well, this isn't a book, now, is it?" Astrid snapped. She turned back to Hiccup and didn't talk to Rap the rest of the day. Not only was Astrid not talking to Rap, Jack had to drag her out of the Hospital Wing to get her to eat.
