The next morning is not so easy.
I wake up to the tightness now worse and hurting a little, kind of like a cramp. It's more uncomfortable than painful.
It's still a bit dark and Maxon's fast asleep.
I try to rub the pain away, but the feeling of pressure sitting on my side isn't going away.
"Maxon," I call out.
He stays asleep on his back, his head turned the other way.
"Maxon."
He still doesn't wake up.
I grab Maxon's arm.
He jumps a bit and looks at me.
"I need you to help me sit up," I instruct him.
"Are you ok?" he asks worried.
"I don't know."
He sits up and moves the blankets back.
He takes one of my hands and puts his other arm around my back.
He helps me sit up.
I take a deep breath and let it out when I'm up.
Maxon watches me with concern etched onto his face.
"Can I do anything for you?" he asks, rubbing his thumb on the back of my hand.
"I think I'm going to try to take a bath," I answer.
"I'll go start it and put some bubbles in it."
"Thank you."
He goes to the bathroom.
I hear him start the bath as I slowly get up.
I walk to the dresser and grab a random pair of maternity pants and a maternity shirt. I get my undergarments, then head to the bathroom.
Maxon looks at me when I come in.
"You ok?" he checks.
"Mhmm."
"I could've helped you in here. I could've gotten your clothing as well."
"It's fine. I just want to get in and try to relax."
"It's almost filled up. You can get in now if you want though."
I nod.
I undress and he helps me get in, making sure I don't slip.
He turns it off when it's full and holds my hand.
"So what happened?" Maxon asks.
"What do you mean?" I ask back.
"When you woke me up. Is there something wrong?"
"Well."
He's watching me, still concerned.
I hesitate then explain how the tightness had been concerning me the night before.
"America."
"What."
"Why the hell didn't you tell me."
"You were tired Maxon. And I wasn't as concerned about it at the time."
"You need to think of the baby. Something could've happened or could be happening right now."
"I'm sorry ok. What do you want me to do?"
"You needed to see a doctor last night. But you didn't bother to tell me."
"Stop yelling," I tell him, getting teary eyed.
"I'm not yelling, America. I'm frustrated."
"You're yelling at me."
"I'm not. But you need to be seeing a doctor, not taking a bath."
I pull my hand away from his and look away from him.
"America. Stop it. You're acting ridiculous."
"You're the one acting ridiculous!"
He gets up and walks out.
I wipe my face and try to calm myself down enough to finish my bath."Mom, can you color with me?" Eadlyn requests.
"Sure sweetie. That sounds fun," I answer with a smile.
We finished lunch about an hour ago.
Most of today I've been eating and spending time with my kids in my bedroom.
The doctor had to travel to see a relative, but he plans on being back later today. We called and talked to him about the pain and tightness, but he said it's most likely just Braxton Hicks. He also said if anything changes we should call him.
Maxon and I haven't really been speaking to each other since our argument. He's been working in the meeting room. I'm worried the kids are going to notice.
Eadlyn brings me one of her coloring books and her crayons. She gets another coloring book for herself and we color together.
After a bit Maxon comes in.
I look at him then look away, back to the coloring book.
"Eadlyn, Ahren, Kaden. Come on, the doctor is here to see your mother," Maxon instructs.
The kids get up and run out to the hallway to go with a maid who will watch them while I have my checkup.
I move the coloring book and put the crayons away.
Maxon comes over and moves all of their toys to the floor.
We don't say anything while he does this.
"Where's the doctor?" I ask, still not looking at him.
"He'll be here in a few minutes," he replies. "He went to get his things."
"Oh."
More silence.
"I'm sorry, America. I didn't mean to freak out on you," he apologizes.
"Well you did."
"And I'm sorry. It was wrong of me. I'm just worried about you and our baby."
"That doesn't mean you yell at me."
"I know, my dear. I won't yell at you anymore."
He takes my hand and sits by me.
I look at him.
He smiles and a bit and tells me he loves me. I tell him I love him back.
"We fight over the dumbest things, don't we?" I speculate.
"Sometimes. Every couple has their stupid little fights. But I don't think this thing is dumb. I just overreacted."
I nod.
The doctor knocks then comes in when Maxon allows him.
He smiles at me while sitting his bag down.
"How are you feeling?" he questions.
"I don't really know. I'm having tightness and pain on my side," I explain.
"I'll check on the baby then."
"Thank you."
He begins his examination. Midway he looks at me a bit shocked.
"What?" I ask.
