chapter 5 || 005

'a new place to like'

I folded up the towel and put it on top of the counter next to the sink and exit the bathroom. Not before noticing the faint purple mark that that bastard made around my neck. Jughead told his dad about the incident at school and FP made me stay home for two days.

Lay off the heat.

With a sigh I make my way to the front of the trailer to see both of the Jones' sitting there eating breakfast and giving each other weird looks.

"Okay did I interrupt some father son thing? Do you want me to go? Cuz I can get a head start to school if you want." I offer, picking off the plate that one of them set for me at the table.

I watch as they both stare at each other for a moment longer before FP sits at the table. "Southside high got closed down, so that means you and Jughead will be attending Riverdale High." I nod along the best I can without seeming like I'm confused.

Because I really am.

Isn't Riverdale high, in Riverdale? What's the whole stare showdown about?

"On the Northside." Jughead specifies and I pick up a piece of toast on my plate and take a bite out of it. What was this kid on about? Didn't he used to go there? His dad said that he did.

Maybe he didn't like it there.

"So I'm having another first day? Cool. Are those Northsiders gonna be assholes too?" I question Jughead and he hides a smirk. "Great."

-

Me and the rest of the serpents who got sent to Riverdale high pull up on our bikes to the new school. Luckily it wasn't just my first day, it'd be the serpents first day too. Except for Jughead. I feel a little less tense with that in mind.

The others start parking their bikes and I start to park mine, but making it quick because of the whole walking in together part. It doesn't take long before my bike is off and my helmet is tucked away safely.

All of us head up the nice steps and into the even nicer building. This was definitely one of those schools where nobody gets away with anything unless you're rich and privileged. I keep up with Toni and Fangs in the front as we reach a table.

A girl with raven black hair is all smiley and chipper to greet us beside her is a redhead boy. I don't pay attention to her words as I take in the environment. Riverdale high is a school a princess would go to, how fitting for me.

Another voice cut of the nice girls one, this time filled with mean words. It wasn't even first period yet and there was already an asshole I didn't like. I catch a look at who's speaking and it's some red headed girl with-

Reggie.

Not surprising, but honestly very telling. He was a jock and the girl next to him was probably the popular girl maybe a cheerleader. Maybe they were a power couple.

"Cheryl, no one invited fascist barbie to the party." The raven haired girl shot out, she was quick. I like her a little bit.

"Wrong Veronica no one invited Southside scum to out school." Cheryl - the red head shot back at her and then she pointe her full attention to us. "Listen up ragamuffins I will not allow riverdale high's above average GPA to suffer because of classroom that are over crowded with underachievers."

I scoffed at that lightly, making Reggie notice me in the pile of 'ragamuffins'. His face was torn between a smile and a frown. "Assholes." I mutter to myself under my breath.

"So pleases do us all a favor and find some other school to deface with your hard scrabble ways." Cheryl finishes her long tyrant rant as I watch Toni get more and more rilled up.

"Why don't you come over here and say that to my face." Toni starts walking over to the queen bee and I latch onto her arm to pull her back a little bit. We're not that close of friends so I don't know how she'd react to me full on pulling her back.

"Toni no, she's not worth it." I whisper in her ear as the scene starts to slowly unfold around us. She backs down a little bit but not with out a glare to the queen of the school.

The red headed boy- maybe that was Cheryl's brother starts talking about clean slates and starting over. I don't think the serpents are the type to just start over. But Reggie calls him out.

"You don't speak for the bulldogs Andrews and need I remind you these greaser snakes showed up at your place tryin' to kick your ass" He was speaking to the red head but his eyes met mine a couple of times.

Suddenly Sweet Pea came from behind both me and Toni. "Happy to finish what we started." Jughead and Fangs had to hold him back from- I guess kicking that kids ass.

I can't have one normal day can I? Not even in a town like Riverdale? It wasn't like all the other places I stopped in. Why can't it just be normal?

"Alright I am so over to the toxic masculinity in this hallway right now." Veronica- that's what Cheryl called her came in-between the two boys. I was over it too. She doesn't seem like she's from Riverdale though.

I cran my neck to see a tall old man at the end of the crowd. "Alright! That's enough Pomp and circumstance. Everyone let's get to class. Now." He's surely the principal of this place, seeing as all the students were dispersing at his words.

But I stayed. I positioned myself against a the lockers by the welcome table that was set up and watched everyone closely. Now that I'm here, I'd have to choose who my friends were. Some people obviously have beef with the serpents, meaning I had beef with them.

Reggie utters some type of threat to that Veronica girl and then he walks over to me.

"I swear I didn't know you were a serpent, or-" he starts saying but I can already tell it's bullshit from the way his sentence is going.

"Or you wouldn't have talked to me at the diner? Or remembered my name? Nice, good to know." I put on a fake smile and ripped myself from the lockers and followed where the serpents went.
