chapter 7 || 007
'said behind closed doors'
It was the same routine, wait the tables, clean the tables, repeat. I'm thankful that FP lined up this job for me and that Pop gave it to me. I will be forever thankful for a peaceful job like this, but I'm getting restless over here.
I kind of liked dancing better.
I know that Riverdale has a darkside to it. I've seen it on the Southside with that ghoulie kid. And I've heard it from Jughead who's trying to uncover the dark mysteries infested within Riverdale. I honestly don't know how the people here don't run themselves dry by living here.
Picking up the towel I tuck it into my apron and walk to the counter. I've been seeing a lot of regulars come in here, especially one that caught my eye. Reggie.
He's at his usual booth, fiddling with his phone in his hands.
Out of no where Pop's voice came from behind me. I catch my breath slightly and turn around to face him. He's handing a box of napkins that I take out of his hands before he can protest and place under the counter.
Now Reggie's phone is away and he's looking through the menu. He seems nervous if you ask em.
"You know I've never seen him come in as much before you started working here Diana." I knew he was going to say something about it. He's been smiling at me all week. I cough up a dry laugh and turn away from the jock.
"So I manage to get you a new regular? Well, I think that calls for a raise." I joke with him and he laughs with me.
Pop pats my shoulder and heads back to the kitchen as I gear up to go face the bulldog. I don't feel nervous but I can feel his nerves about five meters away as I walk up to the booth.
"Hi, what would you like?" I didn't have to pretend with him, which was weird. He already knew I was a serpent- kind of and that I don't mesh with the Northsiders. So there was no reason to smile for an extra tip.
He doesn't look up to meet my gaze until I clear my throat. "I wanna apologize for what my friends said about you. It wasn't cool. I'm sorry." It was a start, a very small one.
I force a smile onto my face and tap on my notepad once again. "You know that if you say that, but you mean the opposite when it comes to another Soutsider then this apology was really for nothing. Right?"
Before I can hear his answer my eyes inspect the scene outside the dinner window and it was something. It was that same ghoulie kid that attacked me hotwiring my harley. I already started running when I saw him so close to my bike.
"Hey! Hey! Get the hell away from my bike!" I screamed, running to the door of the dinner and pushing it open. Once he saw me he started smiling as the bike started up. "Hey!"
He took a seat on my bike and gripped the handles, like it was his. Like he worked for that bike. He had no idea what i had to do to get that damn bike!
"This is just a little of what you owe me after that hallway fiasco." He starts laughing to himself and talking to himself like some addict. "There's more to come, just wait. Don't ever mess with a ghoulie."
Was he serious?
Slowly I stepped closer to him, this time knowing how dangerous he is. He couldn't have seen what I've seen, done what I did. He may be a ghoulie but me? I'm not even a serpent yet.
"I think you underestimate me. You won't do it again, I know it." playing even more with fire I let my hand reach his shoulder. "Take the bike, but don't go too far. Wanna see how long you'll last."
I took my hand away from his shoulders and backed up from the bastard. Revving up the engine he drove off away from Pops.
With a little bit of shame I walk back into Pops and straight to the bathroom. I couldn't see if everyone was looking at me or not with all the noise I made outside. I didn't care enough.
At least he didn't put his hands on me again. After what happened in Greendale I can't even imagine what I would have done and what took place was worse.
I have to lay low. Too much noise and heat would put me back on their radar and I didn't come so far and do what I had to do to get here, only to be dragged away.
"Diana? You okay in there?" A knock on the door startled me but I calmed my breathing. It was only Jughead behind the door. When did he even get here?
I heard other voices- probably the rest of the serpents. When did they all get here?
Quickly I open the door and there they are. Toni, Sweet Pea, Fangs and Jughead.
"Pop called me. We were already on our way here but we may have ran a few lights to get here quick." Jughead said as I chuckled lightly and when I did he smiled a tiny bit.
"What do I have to do to become a serpent?"
