My breath remained hitched as we wandered through the woods, nothing but a flimsy light from a key chain guiding us through the dark paths. The weather was getting colder lately as fall was coming to an end, winter approaching us fast.

We had been traveling on the room for the last two days, stopping only to stack up on cheap food and gas for a dusty 2007 honda civic. I had said that it was best to just take my car, or at least take reasonable transportation.

But it was against her motives and could blow her cover, which is why she decided to borrow one of her friend's old beat up car that was practically covered in filth. I had to give it to her, she thought everything out

"Are you gonna tell me where the hell we're going so I can at least have a time estimate on when we'll arrive?" I asked, feeling annoyed at the loud sound of leaves crumbling underneath us.

She said nothing as she continued to walk forward, jingling her keys to make more sound so it wasn't too quiet. The only thing entertaining us was the hoots of an owl, telling us it was later than usual.

"Poor backstabbing ass rich boy, what you can't handle a little walk in the woods?" She asked loudly, her voice booming as she looked back at me while flashing the light in my face. "For the record, we're going to go see someone who lives out here. That okay with you?"

Of course that was all she thought of me, hell everyone thought that half of the time when they met me. Assuming the worst about my abilities of coping when it came to normalcy, but it wasn't the matter of accepting things above me. I just couldn't find it in my head to settle for less, when life was so short. Especially in my choice of career.

"Let me guess someone that is trying to test out what it's like to be in the slums?" I teased as we finally came to the end of the trail, grabbing the branch and holding it open for her to walk through it.

She eyed me for a second before walking through it, following behind her as we ended up on a random road. The entire thing free from any car in sight, most likely a abandoned road of some sort.

"Or maybe it's someone that would like to remain off the grid, you can't be found - it's easier to live in peace."

I snorted. "Obviously you can relate..." I trailed off as we walked down the road together, she looked at me with a dark side eye. "So, Carly-"

She winced at me saying her name, it was the first time I basically even acknowledged her as Ryder's sister. The topic obviously too much for her to even speak about, unless she just didn't want to talk about her life with me. Which was understandable.

"Don't-" She sighed at . "The second my name went on that tombstone is the moment I gave up being Carlie Maria Brown."

"But that's your identity." Taking notice of her fast paced walking, struggling to keep up with her as the pain in my side ached. "You have so much going for yourself, your mother being the highest doctor. Your father was an engineer-"
