At that moment it was like time seemed to slow down, while everyone turned to look at me in shock but none of them mattered. Besides one person I betrayed and let down, as she took a second to reconcile what Caleb just announced to the public.
My eyes met hers sadly as she looked at me, trying to make sense of what's being said while my rights were being read to me. In this past I didn't care about things like this, but it was the fact someone I loved had to witness this as an old wound had been ripped open right in front of me. And I was the cause of it.
I winced harshly as he intended to put pain on me, attempting to make sure that I was harmed in every way possible because he had that right as a cop. And if I were to disobey, this is only going to make a lot of things worse for me.
"W-What?" Ryder finally spoke after what had seemed like an eternity, almost looking as if they had been wrong. "Are you kidding me, I did that! I was the one drinking and driving, he wasn't even there!" She practically screamed.
Somehow, part of me did wish that was true and I didn't make that mistake, but it would've been selfish to let her go long without knowing the truth. Without knowing my truth.
Her eyes searched mine in desperate need, as if the look was saying 'tell all of them the truth so we can be left alone, please' but sadly, it can't happen. I can't be the one to save her, not this time. Because right now at this moment, she is way better off in someone else's care instead of mine.
The both of us just watched each other in pain, while I kept focused on her as they spun me around. Before yanking me out of the building, right until I could barely see her anymore.
"I'm sorry, firecracker." I mumbled softly, as they guided me out of the house.
Ryder's brother has thrown a series of angry profanities at me, while her mother just looked with an raised eyebrow. I had no idea what that meant, but it was among the severe lines of 'We won' all while I was nothing but the loser in their twisted games.
A bunch of reporters formed a very large crowd outside the house, as they took a lot of pictures of my arrest. I didn't say anything while some reporters began to ask me questions, a lot of them being on the verge of 'Which murder did authorities find out about?' and if I had any regrets about them.
But there was only one that had pissed me off, I felt as if it was nothing but a slap in the face. One of the guys shouting from the crowd, 'Did you plan on murdering Linda Brown's last daughter, if she wasn't pregnant with your kid?' I watched the guy with a heavy look, keeping my eyes focused on him for the moment.
Just a few seconds that felt like a brief lifetime, as I attempted memorize all his facial details just before Caleb the door towards a police car with a steel mesh cage. I looked back at the guy for another second, before something near my peripheral vision caught my attention; Making me turn back to the door.
