Pha's POV

I quickly ran to where I think N'Kit's voice came from. My heart is pounding hard in my chest while my mind continued to chant for his safety.

"N'Kit!" I called out to him. "Where are you?"

"Pha!" I heard his loud reply. He's just near me.

"Where are you?"

"Pha! I'm stuck here!"

Stuck?

"Where?" I continued to shout as I followed his voice.

"I fell into a hole!" his voice was close by now and I began to look down.

A few meters away from me, I could see a gaping hole. I quickly run towards it and saw N'Kit inside, looking up with his face filled with panic and fear. He must have heard the howls too.

"N'Kit!" I gladly exclaimed as I reached my hand down for him to reach. The hole isn't that deep for me, but it sure is to him. He quickly grabbed my hand and I began to pull him up. Another howl pierced the air just as he made it out of the hole. He crashed himself in my arms and I could feel him shaking and trembling. He's crying.

"Shh...I'm here already. You're safe now." I said.

But just as the words left my mouth, we heard another howl, this time we both stiffen because it was near around us. He pulled away and looked at me, fear is now evident in his tear-stained face.

"We need to go." I told him quietly as we stood up. We looked around for any signs of the predator but we found nothing. We started running out of there, N'Kit's gripping my hand tightly as we go.

I didn't know he had ran so far and the sky is totally dark now, making it a little harder for us to navigate our way. I looked behind me to check on N'Kit when I caught sight of the big predator running towards us.

"Fuck! N'Kit, run faster! We're in serious trouble!" I exclaimed as I hastened my speed, almost dragging N'Kit along.

I could hear him panting and I wish we could stop for him to rest but unfortunately we can't. If we do that, we'll be somebody else's dinner. I began to recognize my surroundings, being grateful for getting closer towards the edge of the forest, close to the cabin. I looked back to check if the predator is still after us but thankfully, it's already gone.

Still, we didn't lessen our pace until we were near the cabin's premises. We both went inside and quickly shut the door, locking it securely behind us. We both slumped on it as we catch our breath. N'Kit is totally wheezzing and gasping for air. His hand is still on mine, gripping my hand tightly. I could still feel him trembling and shaking, probably from the fear of what just happened.

I quietly took him in my arms, making him feel safe and secured. I could hear him crying afterwards and then I felt his tears soaking my shirt. He curled up on my chest as he sat on my lap, his hands tightly gripping my shirt like his hanging for his dear life. We stayed in that position until I felt him stop shaking. I looked down and realized he had fallen asleep. I carried him to the bedroom, cleaning him up first and changing his clothes before laying him down to the bed to sleep.

Dinner was long forgotten as the exhaustion took over us. I took a shower after I cleaned up the kitchen and went to bed beside N'Kit. He was curled up in his sleep and I felt bad about it. I took him in my arms and cuddled him, wishing it would drive the fear away.
