Chapter 19: Missing celebrant

Beam's POV

After the competition, Ming and I got busy with paperworks as we rushed to finalize our reports and turnover works for the next campus moons. I'm proud and happy that N'Yo won a place and an award on the competition. He didn't won the title but he's the first runner up like me. Even with that, I know I'm proud of him because he did his best even when he doesn't want to join the competition in the first place.

Speaking of N'Yo, I noticed how unsettled he is throughout the evening. We found him hugging Pha as he cried before he went on stage for his performance. Pha told us he was just nervous but I'm sure it wasn't just that. He didn't say anything about it so we just let him cry it out.

When he won the title, he was so happy and proud. We took some pictures together and had a few laughs as well but when the five of us were the only ones left in the room, he just shrank back on the couch and just stayed silent again. I wonder what's bothering him. Does he have a problem? Is it serious? Why isn't he telling me anything?

I wanted to talk to him but Ming kept urging me to finish up what we are doing. When we were finally done, we told the others we would just send the papers to the office and come back to them. But when Ming and I came back, we found the waiting room empty.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Yo's number but the call can't connect. Ming had called N'Kit as well but it was the same with him to. We began to worry about our brothers but then my phone rang and I saw it was Pha, calling.

"Ai'Pha, where are you guys?" I quickly asked.

"Sorry Beam, I already took the boys out. Don't worry about us and just enjoy the night with Ming." he replied.

"What? Why would I do that? Where are you guys?"

Pha didn't reply for a minute and I began to feel a sense of worry. I heard Ming's phone ring as well and he picked the call up. It's from P'Forth. He talked to him while I have yet to get an answer from Pha.

"Hello Beam, don't worry about us okay." he just said and dropped the call.

What just happened?

I dialed his number but he has his phone already turned off. I tried calling Yo's phone again but it still won't connect. What's going on? Why do I smell something fishy?

I waited for Ming to finish his call. When he finally hang up, he has an unreadable expression on his face.

"What did he say?" I asked.

"He told me not to worry about the kids and just enjoy the night." he replied. Weird, that was what Pha said too.

"Is he with Pha and the kids?"

"I don't know. I didn't hear anyone in the background."

"What else did he say?"

"He told me we could celebrate being free of our responsibilities now."

"He said that?"

"Yup."

"Nothing about the kids?"

"Nothing. Why? Did Pha say something about them?"

"Nothing too. Just that he said he took them out and there's nothing to worry about."
