Golden Days - Panic! At the Disco

~3rd Person POV~

"Jessica." There's a whisper from outside the hut causing Jessica to wake up. "Jessica!" It sounds louder. She opens her eyes and watches as Ray stirs lightly in his sleep. Something snaps a twig outside of the hut, causing Jessica to shoot onto her feet and quietly look out the doorway. As she peeks her head outside, she sees a familiar scaly moss-green face.

"Niles," she sighs.

"Jessica, what are you doing?" he asks.

"Living with my own kind." She closes her eyes and hangs her head. Niles lets out a short laugh.

"I should have known. The scent was too familiar. I figured you had killed one but you are one. How?"

"Futuristic science."

"Futu-what?"

"It's too much for an animal like you to understand." It hurt her to call him an animal. He is her mate after all, and she's purposely trying to push him away.

"You have done this before," he sighs as he steps closer. "You will not push me away again."

"I have to. This is where I belong. Not with you, not with the pack, but with him." She looks back at Ray's sleeping form. "He could die if I'm not with him."

"Then let me help," he insists.

"No," she stands her ground. This is her personal mission and she doesn't want anyone else in on it. It doesn't matter that Niles is her mate. In all honesty, her relationship with Niles became less serious as soon as she heard of the human's presence. It's her chance to truly be like them; the way she was always meant to be; her original form.

"Why not?" He seems more desperate.

"Because humans are the enemy," she tells him sternly. "I am the enemy."

"I refuse to believe you are like him until I see it for myself," he growls.

"Fine," she snaps. She dashes out into the bushes and Niles follows closely behind. There is a sudden bright glow emitting from Jessica's body and in the blink of an eye, there's a woman standing in the raptor's place.

The only evidence that this human female is his beloved Jessica is the dark purple hue running in a jagged line from her eyes to her thighs, only stopping because she no longer has a tail. She bears sparkling brown hair and mesmerizing milk-chocolate eyes. Niles takes a step back and shakes his head. He can't believe this is his mate. Everything she was... is a lie.
