I stared in disbelief at the buff Terminator in front of me.

"What do you mean John and I are 'destined' to be together?" I asked, my arms crossed over my chest.

"John Connor needs a companion, a mate-" "Please never use the term 'mate' again." I groaned.

"When I was sent here to protect John Connor, I also had a protocol to protect you. The T-1000 had orders to kill either you are him. If he dies, the future of the human race is no longer, and if you die, his sanity will be compromised."

"So, what you're saying is, him and I are going to fall in love and stay with each other throughout the war with machines?" He nodded. "I'm not going to have children am I?"

"None, as of now." He replied. I sighed.

John had told me about all of this future crap before, but he said his mom had told him, and that his mom was some crazy loser. It was overwhelming to find out it's true and then told you're destined to be with the future resistance leader, all while being followed by a liquid-metal robot killing machine.

I looked over at John, who was sleeping in the back of the cop car we had stolen when rescuing John's mom.

"Does Sarah know?" I asked, looking back at the machine-man.

"Little. Kyle Reese explained it to her, but not in detail. She will realize soon."

"And John?"

"He will also know soon, you will have to come together eventually." I ran a hand through my hair. "You should get rest, we're leaving early tomorrow, and you need to be awake." I nodded agreeing with him.

I began to walk back towards the car, knowing there was no room in the backseat with John, I decided to sleep in the passenger seat. It wasn't comfortable, but I could've had worse. I glanced behind me at sleeping John. I bit my lip thinking but turned back around.

I fell asleep.

*************************** The Next Morning******************************

The next day we immediately got back on the road. I sat in the backseat with Sarah, behind the Terminator, while John sat in the front seat.

I leaned my chin against my hand as I looked out the window, watching the desert serene fly by. That morning, when we woke up, I could hardly look at John, and him not knowing the truth may have been killing me inside. So, I stayed silent.

"Just keep it under sixty-five. We can't afford to be pulled over." Sarah said, breaking the silence.

"Affirmative." The Terminator replied.

"No, no, no. You gotta listen to the way people talk. See, you don't say things like 'affirmative', or some shit like that. You say... no problemo." John said.  The Terminator nodded.

"If someone comes to you with an attitude, you say 'eat me'... and if you wanna shine them on, it's 'Hasta la vista, baby.'" John continued.

"Hasta la vista, baby?" The Terminator asked.

"Yeah, or 'later dickwad.'. Or if someone gets upset you say 'Chill out.' Like that. Or you can do combinations."

"Chill out, dickwad." The Terminator says, looking at John.

John hits the Terminators' shoulder. "That's great! See you're getting it."

"No problemo." The Terminator replies.

We finally made it to a truck stop in the middle of nowhere with a small food stand. People were gathered at picnic tables, and children and rolled in the dust.

"Got any cash?" Sarah asks.

"Only a couple hundred bucks, I'll give you half." Sarah ripped the money from John's hands. "Mom!" He groans. She sifts through the money, and pulls out a twenty, handing it to John.

"Get some food." She says and leaves the car.

"No sense of humor." John shakes his head.

I climb out of the car stretching my legs. "I'll stay here, you two cant get food." John nodded.

I stared out at the vast desert all around us. The sun beat down on my hair.

John came back, putting food in my face. I took it from him, and took a couple bites, handing him the rest.

"What, not hungry?" He asked.

"Not really. You can have the rest of mine." I replied. He reached out and touched my hand as he took the half-eaten burger from my hands.

"Are you okay?" I looked at him strangely. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I replied.

"It's just that you've been acting strange ever since we got on the road this morning. Did I do something wrong?" He asked. Dammit John.

"No. you didn't do anything, I swear. I'm just-" I thought of an excuse. "sleep deprived! I'm just sleep deprived." He gave me a look.

"Okay?" He asked, confused. I looked away from him, and sighed, rubbing my forehead.

The Terminator walked over to us. "Have you two mated yet?" I nearly choked on air.

"I thought I told you to never use that term again," I said into my hands as I clapped them over my face to hide my red cheeks.

"Wait a second, you know what he's talking about?" John asked. I sighed, removing my hands from my face.

"Care to explain to John what you told me last night?" I asked the Terminator.

He explained exactly what he told me last night, John looked speechless when he finished explaining.

He looked over at me, then the ground, then me, the ground, and repeated several times.

"Oh shit."
