"So where are we going again?" Rico asked for the fourth time. They were currently in an suv on their way off territory.
Ari looked up from his tablet. "The Alpha Assembly. It's a yearly gathering of all alpha leaders in the country organized by the werewolf council. It's held in the middle of the country."
"And why are we going?" Rico asked indicating himself, Chevy, and Verde. None of them were alphas. He was an omega, Chevy was a beta, and Verde was...omega? Human?
"Because you're the alpha-spouses," Natelly said from behind him.
Ari went back to his tablet. "The alpha-spouse is the most important person in the pack next to the alpha. They keep us running."
Verde had been raised a rogue because his parents wanted him to have a normal life. They didn't have good pack experiences. He knew a little but not much. "Alpha-spouse? Isn't that the luna?"
Dom looked at them through the rearview mirror. "Dark Moon doesn't use the term luna anymore. The term luna kind of implies someone kind of motherly that cooks and bakes and watches kids."
Rico snorted. "So not me or Chevy."
"We've been using alpha-spouse or just plain alpha because it doesn't matter if they are male or female and it doesn't make anyone feel any type of way," Cisero said matter of factly.
Verde nodded. "Smart." As a submissive male he appreciated Dark Moon's consideration at eliminating things that would make a male spouse feel feminized. Even though he submitted to his mates, he was still a man.
"So tell us about this year's assembly," Rico pressed.
Natelly handed Verde his tablet with a tab opened to the email about the assembly. "Apparently one of the seers on the council received a message with instructions from the goddess."
"Wicked."
"Plus, it'll be a good chance to meet some of our allies and maybe make some new ones," Cisero added stroking Verde's cheek.
Dom muttered. "Let's just hope we avoid some of the others."
"Others?" Chevy asked. Being a beta not in the higher ranks he knew little of pack politics.
"Not all packs are created equal," Ari grumbled.
Rio swallowed. "Is this assembly for all alphas?"
"No. Just those in charge of packs of eight or more."
Rico shrank in his seat. "Oh."
Ari kissed his hand. "Don't worry. I'll be there with you."

Odessa took Sloan's hand in hers and squeezed. He looked down into her bright brown eyes and gave her a half smile. The twenty five year old alpha's nerves were frazzled and he felt like he was sucking on cotton. He felt tingles dance up his arm as his other hand was taken up by the love his life.
Erion stood on his toes and pecked the nervous alpha on the cheek. "Have confidence, alpha."
Sloan took a deep breath and nodded. He had submitted his proposals half a year ago and got a letter for an appointment a month ago. After the seer gave them the news from the goddess, the council would give him their decision. Another were walked up to him and grabbed the back of his neck. They locked eyes as their foreheads rested against each other.
"May their decision be favorable, cousin."
Sloan felt the comforting vibes being sent out. "Thank you, Leif. This is for all of us. We deserve a clean slate."
