Two weeks later, the six allied pack alphas made a trip to Moonstone Pack and what was left of the council. Each had a specific reason for being there.
Ari went to the temporary Oficium Pack Rationes to discuss the displaced weres in his pack. Margot tagged along acting as his personal secretary. He didn't really want her around. He wanted his mate but she had been a personal assistant and her skills were of use at the moment. His wolf was still not happy with her presence. He only allowed it because she kept him from worrying over his mate.
They walked down one of the halls of what was left of the council building. Several walls showed heavy damage from the attack from Greystone and its allies. Quite a few halls were taped off with scaffolding holding up walls. They saw Dom and Chevy approaching them from the opposite end. Seeing the two large men, Margot walked closer to Ari. Seeing her proximity to his cousin's mate, Chevy growled at her before he could stop himself.
Ari raised a brow. There was no reason for the beta to react in such an unfriendly manner.
Dom put a hand on his mate's back. "Chevy?"
"Who is she?" Chevy growled pointing at the cowering she-wolf.
Ari made introductions. "This is Margot. She's part of Harvest Moon. Right now she is accompanying me as my secretary since Beta Colton is unavailable."
Chevy glared as she reached her hand out to him. "Why is she here?"
Ari narrowed his eyes. It wasn't Chevy's place to question him. He owed the younger, lower ranked wolf no explanations. "I owe you no explanations, beta."
"You are mated to my cousin. I think you do."
The alpha's eyes turned gold. "I owe it to him, not you."
"Since he isn't here, it's up to his family to step in for him."
Ari's wolf tried to surge forward and take full control. Ari made eye contact with his cousin. He could feel himself starting a partial shift as his voice changed. "Alpha Dominic, your subordinate needs to remember his place," he said through gritted teeth.
Dom's eyebrows went up in surprise. "Subordinate?"
"Regardless of familial affiliation, I am a pack alpha and a commander. He needs to remember the chain of command and mind his place," Ari's wolf said tersely.
Dom bristled at the insult. But Ari was right. Chevy was lower ranked and openly showed insubordination and disrespect to a commanding officer. That was a direct reflection on his leadership and command of those under him.
"My apologies, Alpha." He turned to Chevy who was glaring at Margot. "Stand down, beta."
"I won't."
Dom's wolf pushed forward and Chevy instantly submitted. He bit down on his lower lip and stared holes into the floor. Before Dom could chastise his mate, a wolf poked his head out of the damaged doorway and called Ari's name. Ari gripped Margot's arm and dragged her away. Dom stalked off down the hall to the Oficium autem Bellum with Chevy shuffling behind him.
"You were out of line," he said over his shoulder.
Chevy huffed. "I don't care."
Dom grit his teeth. "Stop acting like a brat. You're a team leader. You are better than this."
"My cousin is missing and he's got some woman hanging off his arm!"
"You don't know the circumstances."
"He's cheating!" He gasped as Dom shoved him against a wall and growled at him. His wolf whimpered.
Dom's eyes glowed in the dimly lit hall. "You are out of line. Where is your fucking proof? You have none! You can't go accusing people of things with no proof."
