Rico chuckled softly as he watched Lord Ozmas groan in annoyance. They were in the pack house dining area having breakfast with the other pack members. The pack was excited to have so many supernatural beings on their land. Many of them had never seen any other than a witch or vampire. All were surprised at the size of the fairy and gossiped about it not so discreetly.
Lord Ozmas wanted to tear out his hair. "I don't know where these stereotypes of fairies and our size come from."
Ari looked up from his pancakes and snorted. "Disney."
Ozmas rolled his eyes. "People think we're this weaker lesser species. We wield all this magic power. Don't you think our bodies should be robust enough to handle it?" He smacked his hand down on the table rattling the dishes. " And why should we have this half insect half human image? If we can fool you into seeing whatever your heart desires, why can't we present ourselves how we want? Who wants to be a bug?"
The female mer that joined them sipped on her juice. "Do you have an original form? A normal form?"
Ozmas motioned to himself and all his goodness. "My normal form is as you see."
The dragon was about as tall as Rico and highly jealous. He was a dragon, after all. Being dwarfed by so many made him feel some type. "You're naturally this tall and buff?"
Ozmas nodded. "Yes."
"Wow." He pushed the eggs around on his plate and pouted.
"We come in all sizes. None of us is tiny unless we need to be. Usually that's for spying or escaping," Ozmas pushed a cup of coffee away. "Can I get no cream, please?"
"Good to know," Ari started to get him another cup but one magically appeared with no cream. He nodded thanks to the witch on the other side of Rico.
Ari looked up from his coffee to his guests. He had gotten Dom's message about an impromptu run with the supernaturals that were staying in his pack. He decided to offer the supernaturals at his pack the same opportunity to participate in the run after a quick walk-through of the pack. After they returned from the run, they could take a detailed tour of the pack before dinner. "Would you like to come with us for a while?"
"What are we doing?" the dragon asked.
Ari rubbed his hands together. "Wellness checks."
Ozmas raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
The vampire leaned forward to peer around the golem. "Sorry, Alpha Ari. But what is that?"
Rico stood and ran his fingers through Ari's hair. The alpha sighed in contentment as his mate began to braid his long honey tresses into one braid for the run.
"We walk around the pack and ensure things are running smooth between mates, children, the elderly. We make sure there is no bullying going on or abuse of mates. Too many in the past have had to suffer from unfaithful or abusive mates. We also make sure to stomp out any gossip." The alpha smiled. "A happy pack is a strong pack." And his pack was indeed strong.
"What if you get mates not from the pack?" an older elf asked.
Rico answered this time. He was head of this program and quite proud of it. "We have a new member integration program that helps new members or mates settle in. We find them groups to socialize with, training, and so on. No one is a stranger. Everyone is family."
He put a rubber band on the end to keep the hair from coming undone then kissed the top of his mate's head. Ari wrapped Rico's arms around his neck and smiled, happy for the attention. Rico bent down and kissed his dominant. Little Taryn pouted and made a noise of protest beside his father who only laughed softly at his son's jealousy.
