At midnight the first effects began to settle in. those that were still awake began to feel a dulling of their wolf senses. Human colored eyes turned wolf in varying shades of yellow, orange, and green. The body moved slower with less coordination as the wolf tried to make sense of being in full control of the human vessel and moving about. For those trained as wolf and human, the change wasn't so bad. For others, it was a hilarious sight to behold.

There was nothing but darkness. A baby cry rent the air. Verde's heart pounded in his ears as the child's cries grew louder. Frantic, he ran through the dark toward the sound. As he drew nearer they suddenly stopped. Breath coming in pants, Verde looked around wildly but could see nothing in the never-ending blackness.

Suddenly, flames lit up the black making him shield his eyes. The heat licked his skin and he staggered backwards. Deafening screams made him sink to his knees and he covered his ears. The screams died down then the pitter patter of rain drizzling. Verde stood as the flames died down and the blackness returned.

He clutched his burning chest. What was happening? What were these horrible sounds and images about?

He wiped his wet hair out of his face. Bright light burned his eyes and he held up his hands to his face. He paused at the red coating his fingers. Then he realized he was covered in it. It wasn't rain but blood. He staggered forward and heard a crunch. His eyes widened at the skeletons and dead bodies that lay at his feet. A hand shout out of the ground and seized his ankle. Startled, he fell backward landing hard on his ass. The hand used his leg to pull itself out of the ground.. First it's shoulder then part of it's decaying head. He squeezed his eyes tight not wanting to see the horror crawling out of the pile. A wailing moan filled his ears, deafening him. He covered his ears and started begging as he felt it crawling up his body.

"Verde."

He knew this voice. He risked opening his eyes and wished he hadn't.

Familiar blue eyes stared out at him as his black hair lay matted against his rotting skin covered in blood. There were four clawmarks across his neck dripping with blood.

Verde's heart pounded in his chest and he began to tremble.

The rotting corpse stuck his tongue out as if to taste his skin. Before Verde could stop himself, he screamed.

Waking with a gasp, Verde put his hand over his pounding heart. Natelly grunted in his sleep then started snoring again.  Verde looked over his mate's shoulder at the clock that read 1:00 a.m. He crawled out of bed careful not to wake his mates. Slipping on a sweater, he then padded out of the bedroom and down to the kitchen.

The human part of him was tucked away in the corner of his mind. His wolf was roaming around in their shared body without his wolf senses. He could hardly make anything out in the darkened house. How did humans function with such bad eyesight?  He made a note to remind his human to put nightlights in the halls.  He swore as he nearly tripped on the last step.  This was torture.  With his wolf vision and reflexes, he would have navigated his way around the house easy peasey.

He cursed under his breath as he stumbled over the hall table as he made his way to the back of the house towards the kitchen.  It felt like he was walking in the dark forever.  He felt along the wall and startled when he turned on the kitchen light and found the vampire Hakon sitting at the table.

Hakon patted the table next to him and offered him a cup of tea when he sat. It was as if he'd been waiting for him.

"Thank you."

"No problem." He watched Verde take a few sips. His dark skin had been slightly ashen when he first entered the kitchen and seem to regain some of its glow. "Bad dreams?"

"How did you know?"

Hakon's eyes brightened for a moment.  "Vampires can sometimes see dreams."

Verde's wolf rubbed his eyes. "Ah. I hope I didn't wake you."

"No. I'm mostly nocturnal like the gargoyles. The others are morning birds."

"I see."

The vampire leaned back in his seat with his arms draped over the back of the chair and took in the wolf/human.  "You don't have to be supernatural to see you're all on edge."

Verde's wolf nodded.  "We are. I guess we have been trying to mask it with the baby shower shower, having you guys to our packs, the run.  Distractions."

"Why so nervous?"

An image of smoke and fire crossed his vision. He'd been having more and more strange dreams as of late.  Verde's wolf shifted in his seat.  "Something about this eclipse is different. There's something happening out there."

"What gives you this impression?"

"The Kidnappings, murders, threats. If other supernaturals weren't having issues at the same time as us, I'd think nothing of it. Dismiss it as werewolf paranoia. I-we just...feel it. Just like we're already feeling the effects of the eclipse."

"They say you-he had no wolf."

"True. He mated with his alphas and during the bite, he was turned."

Hakon's light blond eyebrows went up to his hairline.  "I didn't know they could do that.  I mean to a were that lost their wolf and was human again."

The wolf smirked.  "Neither did we! Very few can. They think it has to do with his ancestry."

"And what're you like compared to his other wolf?"

The wolf's brows furrowed.  He'd met Verde's other wolf once in the Garden of Souls where reincarnated wolf spirits awaited a vessel.  "I'm older than his other wolf.  I know a few more things.  My instincts are sharper.  His other wolf was very gentle and loving.  A caretaker.  I'm of the warrior class."

Hakon nodded in understanding.  "Hmm. Well, vampires have another inside us as well. Seldom is it wrong. Trust your instincts.  Your instincts tell you something is off, prepare for it."

"Thank you."

"We will stay until the feeling passes."

He blushed. "You don't have to."

"I feel I must."  Hakon frowned a little at he looked at the table.  "If nothing else, my other and I feel this need to be close to you and yours."

"What about your mates?"

Hakon looked up into Verde's golds feeling the change in his own eye color to red.  "They feel the same."

*I know it's weird I didn't give the wolves names but there are enough names to keep in mind.
