Bunny opened his eyes as the sound of beeping grew louder to his ears. He groaned and turned his head.  There was a click and the blinding light that greeted him was gone.

"Lapin?"

His heart fluttered at the sound of his mate. He turned and met Snow's blues. A smile touched his lips. "You're here," he weakly raised his hand and gently touched the unbandaged side of Snow's face.

The alpha smiled and leaned into his mate's touch. "I'm right here, Lev."  After two days of unresponsiveness, he was elated to hear his mate's voice and feel his touch.

Bunny smiled and touched his shorter hair. "You cut your hair."

He ran a hand through it. After being set on fire, his hair had to be cut off. He sported a military style low cut making him look older. "It'll grow back."

Bunny laughed softly. "I like it. It makes you look edgier."

He smiled and kissed Bunny's hand.

"The pups?"

Snow hesitated. Though Eira and Emri had been successfully delivered, the council had to be notified due to Emri's circumstances. The news was not good. "They are fine. They're off getting some tests done. A council representative will be coming to see us soon."

The heart rate monitor began to beep faster. Bunny began to cry as guilt washed over him. "Snow, I'm so sorry."

Snow kissed him softly. "Its not your fault. At all."

"But-"

He stroked his sub's head trying to calm him down. He was still recovering from a fight, an emergency c-section, and poisoning. "You had to fight two powerful fighters and a witch all by yourself while carrying twins. You did well."

"But I-"

"Shhh." He smoothed back Bunny's golden curls. "Rest. The twins will need you."

"Stay with me?" Bunny's eyes fluttered as the medication to keep him calm kicked in.

"I'll be right here, mon lapin." He kissed his hand. "I'm not going anywhere." He ran his hand along his strong jawline as he drifted off to sleep. The nurse, that had been standing in the corner waiting on Frost Moon's pack alpha, spoke up.

"You should get some rest."

Snow kept his eyes on his mate.  He was a whirlwind of emotions.  His wolf was dying to get out and tear the men to shreds and at the same time wanted to curl up with his family.

"I'm not leaving." His wolf was wallowing in self-pity. His beautiful mate and his children whom he failed to protect were all laid up in the hospital. What kind of alpha did that make him?

"You need to heal too."

Snow ignored her and rubbed Bunny's hand.  "My family needs me."

"But-"

His wolf started to push forward in agitation. "Bring the children here. He'll feel better and heal faster if he can be near them."

"But the boy-"

His wolf shoved him back and took control. He turned with eyes blazing red and his canines bursting through his gums. "Watch what you say! That's my son!" The threat in his alpha tone was enough.

The nurse bowed in submission. "I'm sorry, alpha. I meant no disrespect."

He pointed to the door, done with the annoying creature before him. "Go."

"Yes, sir." The nurse scurried out the door leaving the enraged alpha behind.

*********

Colton startled as he walked into the living room of the alphas residence. A pair of golden eyes glared at him out of the darkness. It had been two days and the alpha still hadn't changed back from his wolf after his mate disappeared with the other returnees.

"Alpha, the other alphas are requesting your presence at a meeting."

He snarled at the beta.

"I know you're upset about Rico. But-"

Ari's jaws snapped at the beta. Colton held his composure. He'd known Ari and Dom since they were children. Their mood swings did nothing to deter him.

"Ari, if we are going to have any chance of getting him back, you need to stop wallowing in self-pity and meet with the other alphas. See what's going on with the council. Find some leads. Hiding in the dark snarling at people trying to help isn't doing shit."

He raised a brow as Ari huffed at him but shifted back. He switched the light on and took a good look at his alpha. Ari's golden mane was greasy and matted down. His normally sparkly blue eyes were dull and underlined by deep purple bags. His lips were chapped and his beard scraggly. He cringed thinking about what Rico would have to say if he saw his alpha like this.

"If Rico saw you he'd cuss us both out in Spanish something fierce. Mainly me for letting you get to this state," Colton huffed crossing his arms.

Ari sank onto the sofa and covered his face with his hands. Rico and the others disappeared without a trace during the eclipse. Not only that, but an attack on Harvest Moon and Crescent Falls sent fleeing wolves into Dark Moon North's territory. Rico's family not only had to deal with being displaced but the disappearance of their loved one...again.

"He'd understand," Ari winced at his froggy sounding voice.  He coughed to clear his throat.  " I'm headstrong."

"And that's the truth."

"It just hurts so much." Ari rubbed his chest. "I was alone for so long and he just...brought so much light to my life. And now...now he's g-go-"

Colton smacked him lightly.  "Don't think like that. You can't think like that. Rico isn't the only one missing. Cisero's Little Uni is missing. Over four hundred are missing from the six packs alone. No word on the other packs. This thing is huge. None of us are going to stop until we find them and bring them back. You know our allies. You know Cisero and Natelly."

>He's right. We can't wallow in misery. We're not the only ones suffering.<  His wolf agreed perking up.

Ari sniffed and wiped the tears off his cheeks. "You're right." He stood and embraced his beta. "Thanks."

Colton hugged him back and rubbed his greasy mop. "No problem. I want him back too. We're going to die of starvation at the rate we're going."
