1000 Hours Frost Moon Pack
Connors, the pack gamma, saluted a marbled Gaeus as he passed him on the porch. The gargoyle leader had taken to guarding the front entrance to the alpha pair's home during the day since he came to the pack to visit. Being made of Egyptian marble, he was a stunning mix of deep greens, greys, and golds that strangely complimented the modern style home typical of what one would find in the Pacific Northwest.
He smiled when he walked into the living room and caught the two alphas sharing a tender moment on the sofa. A light clearing of his throat made them look up. He hated interrupting them. Bonding before pups were born was an important part of a relationship. But duty called.
"Alpha Snow, we're having problems reaching the patrol and out post beyond the mountain in the buffer zone."
Snow didn't move from his spot looking at his twins' little hands and feet pressing against his mate's taut stomach. "Aerial footage? Get a drone in there," he said with irritation.
"We sent four. Nothing."
Snow sighed and ran a hand through his loose hair. Bunny cocked his head to the side and smiled.
"Alpha duties, alpha," he chided earning himself a light pinch.
Snow put his hand on Bunny's belly and kissed it. "I won't be long. I'm on standby to go to Blackhawk if they call." He held Bunny's hands in his and brought them to his lips. "Stay off your feet."
Bunny smiled and gave him a peace sign. "No promises."
Snow kissed him softly then headed out with the beta and gamma. Samshin walked in the front door and waved at him.
"Where is Alpha Snow off to?"
Bunny stood and stretched out his back. Twins were a lot of work. "To check the buffer zone. They can't reach the outpost. Probably a downed tower. Happens with the high winds out there."
Samshin was quiet a moment. "I'm going to go with him."
Something about his tone caused Bunny to frown. "Is something wrong?"
The middle-aged mer tapped his chin in thought. There was a slight tingling in his gills that he usually got when things weren't quite right. "I'm not sure. After what happened at Blackhawk I feel the need to be closer to the two of you."
Bunny half nodded. "The witch and vampire are going with him. You should go."
"You sure?"
"Gaeus and the others are here. We should be fine." He shooed him out the door. "Hurry or you'll miss them."
Samshin was able to catch up with the six vehicles headed out to the buffer zone. Bunny stood on the porch rubbing his hand over his belly lost in thought. Whether it was maternal instinct or his human instinct to protect kicking in he couldn't tell. Every fiber of his body told him something was wrong.
Quickly making his way through the house, he went into the kitchen to the back of the kitchen pantry. He flicked the lightswitch against the wall and the pendant lamp began to lower to the floor. A shelf came down loaded with knives and guns used against supernaturals. He grabbed two used for stunning, one with silver bullets, and grabbed four of his knives. He tucked them into his cargoes then flicked the switch for the shelf to go back up. The twins were surprisingly still even though he was a nervous wreck of emotions. He hurried from the pantry to the living room.
>Everyone go on yellow alert!< he said through the link.
There was no response.
