TWENTY-TWO
when a lively place like a square where people used to market their goods, play together and chat, becomes a deadly ring, you never know how your life might turn out — you could continue to live peacefully or you could die instantly.
i personally think it's a matter of luck and sometimes a miracle, although people can consider it as a misfortune, a tragedy.
the large space was perfectly divided in two: i stood at the right part, on a height, next to taeil who was the head of the citizens.
floods of soldiers were below us, each and every one of them positioned in a certain row of ammunitions.
the first one was composed of cannons, then came the bayonets, followed by the rifles and lastly the arrows.
if i'm not wrong they were three hundred against the one hundred and fifty nobles at the left side.
we had the "advantage" of being double in numbers
and speaking of the left side, they had our same composite with the only difference that the heads of the blue bloods, the kings, all rode their horses till the very front of their army and stayed there still.
my eyes met lucas' ones, who surprisingly showed no emotions, and suddenly i started praying for the guys to follow up all the steps that were written on the letter i left them three days ago.
in this moment all i needed to sort things out was their trust.
my thoughts were then interrupted when i heard taeil's loud voice scream
«citizens, let's get our liberty!»
after the strong answer of the citizens, the cannons started firing, while the second row used its horses to run forward towards the enemy side, who didn't even think twice and started fighting as well.
in the blink of an eye, the field became a mess, just like the past meeting's one.
relieved by the fact that women and children were all safe in their houses, i took my gun and went down the rocky stairs
«irene, were are you going so quickly?»
the leader asked me raising an eyebrow.
«i'm going to do my job. don't worry, i'll be fine.»
i ran down the steps and landed on the bloody squares, carefully trying to approach an aggressive looking lucas, who was busy fighting for his life and the one of the kingdom.
«guys, leave him with me. i'll take care about it.»
i hurriedly said to the citizens, who nodded as if to say that they understood everything and headed towards another group of nobles.
when they were finally far enough, i looked at the blonde male's figure, while pointing my gun at him, smirking.
he rose up his hands, putting them behind his head and started speaking
«has your acting suddenly got better or someone actually taught you how to use a rifle?»
i looked around myself, assuring both me and him that no one was currently watching us.
i then set my eyes back at the king, trying to open the fire invane, since the weapon was emptied on purpose and we automatically burst in a cheerful laugh, as i mentally facepalmed myself.
this was the first sign that he had read and understood my message, what a relief.
«is the plan for today clear to you?»
i asked without hesitation, stepping closer to the boy
«yes, we'll wait until this night before being serious with the attack and you'll be helping us from the inside by using the enemies' ammunitions to make them surrender... hopefully.»
he simply answered, like he studied the whole thing by heart.
i smiled widely, happy to receive such an answer.
lucas noticed my joy and came nearer, while caressing my cheek
«you didn't have to try so hard. we would have been okay anyway.»
he lied, sweetly smiling as well.
he then bid me goodbye and went back on his horse, running to only God knows where
and to whosoever is following my humble thoughts: there's now way i would be a traitor to the kings of france, never.

the sun left his place to the moon and its sparkling stars,
the two parties decided that it was time to declare rest for the night and the only thing the people held in their hands was their dinner.
we all silently eat our meals: i could see the tiredness on the soldiers faces, who were all stained with blood and soil.
some women were actively medicating the injured and others already gathered the victims of the day.
«taeil, we need someone to be vigilant for the night.»
jisung said while sipping on his orange juice.
taeil hummed, acknowledging that the young boy was right and stood up asking for a volunteer.
no one seemed interested in the sleepless task, so i took the chance to raise my hands and volunteer myself for it.
the male didn't suspect anything and immediately gave me the assignment.
after we finished consuming our food and helping with the dishes, i exited the refuge we were in as i took a chair along and placed it at entrance.
the air was cool and the atmosphere peaceful, although i couldn't say the same about the sight the place offered me.
i patiently waited for the others to come, since the citizens already drifted off to sleep and the tent seemed lifeless
welcome to the french revolution.
unedited.
