You smiled as you entered the library, waving at the librarians who knew you as if you were their own daughter. A woman with grayish hair swept back in a bun and circular glasses perched at the tip of her nose approached you. She always wore a sweater, no matter what weather, and you almost thought of her like your grandmother.
"Today, you need to shelve the books in the history section. You remember how, right? It's been a while since you've worked in that area."
"I remember," you smiled. "Is there anything else you need me to do today?"
"Nope! After that, you're free to leave," the woman said.
You made your way over to the history section, a grin on your face. Most people avoided the library at all costs, but not you. You volunteered there for fun. You loved reading, so spending time there was a good way to pass the time, especially since you always got so bored during the summer.
Seungmin groaned as soon as he stepped foot in the library. He didn't mind reading... if it was interesting. But his teacher had assigned his class a project on Roman architecture. To him, that was the most boring thing on the planet. Reluctantly, he dragged himself to the history section and began searching for some books to help him out.
He saw you, and was immediately taken aback by how beautiful you were, standing there and shelving books. He moved closer to you, realizing the book he needed was right next to you. Seungmin reached for it when you handed it to him, and he thanked you, but you didn't look at him. You just continued arranging the books.
He snagged a seat nearby, so that he could watch you while you worked. At one point, you struggled with a large book, but you quickly set it on the shelf and opened it up to read a few pages. Suddenly, a women with gray hair in a bun approached him, handing him a bookmark.
"We're looking for new volunteers. Right now, we just have one, and it'd be nice to have someone for her to split up the work with. If you're interested, you can apply online," she handed him the bookmark with the information.
"Um, what day would I have to volunteer?" Seungmin asked.
"Every Saturday. We only have our volunteer come in on Saturday because she goes to school and has to study during the week. Are you interested?"
Seungmin looked back at you and then at the bookmark. "I'd have to check my schedule and let you know. I'm pretty busy these days. Thank you for letting me know, though. I'll try my best to clear my schedule and volunteer."
His phone rang in his pocket, and he realized he had to get home, so he quickly packed up his books and left. But he still kept coming by every Saturday, watching you shelve books. Unfortunately, you never noticed him.
However, one day, you were working in the fiction section, and you saw a particular book that looked interesting, so you pulled it off the shelf. You turned the pages, admiring the little drawings the author had included here and there. Just when you were about to put it back, you noticed a boy through the gap in the bookshelf. His hair was tousled, and he held the book in his hands delicately. He was definitely one of the handsomest boys you'd ever seen. You shook your head and continued doing your work until you reached the end of the aisle where he was sitting.
"Would you like to sit for a while?" Seungmin invited you to sit with him, and you shyly sat down next to him. You craned your neck to see the name of the book he was reading.
"Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" Seungmin read her mind. "It used to be one of my favorites when I was younger. I'm just re-reading."
"Oh, I see," you replied quietly.
"I'm sure you read a lot since you volunteer here." Seungmin was hoping you would open up and talk more.
Your eyes lit up as soon as he asked that question. "Yeah, I love reading. It's probably my favorite hobby. Geez, I sound like a nerd, don't I?"
Seungmin laughed. "I don't blame you. Nerds are the coolest. I actually didn't really like reading until I started coming in every Saturday to find new books. It's like I had a fear of books a month ago."
"Really?" you tilted your head in confusion. "So why'd you keep coming if weren't such a big book worm?"
He took a deep breath. "I actually saw you and thought you were really pretty. So, I kept coming in every Saturday and reading, hoping that one day you would notice me."
You blushed. "Well, looks like today's the day. I finish up my shift in thirty minutes. Wanna grab some hot chocolate then?"
"Sounds like a plan. But you know, we will be seeing each other more often," Seungmin smirked. "I'm the library's newest volunteer."
