Kate smiled as Felix handed you your cone of ice cream. It was her favorite flavor- mint chocolate chip. He smiled as he tasted his own. Kate knew Felix loved strawberry, but he always got mint chocolate chip when he was with her.
"So, what did you need to talk to me about?" Felix asked, facing her on the bench.
Kate shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She wasn't sure how to break the news to her best friend. She and Felix had grown up together in Sydney, Australia, but now, Kate was moving to Korea to continue her studies.
"Um, I'm moving."
Felix raised a brow and replied in his deep, husky voice. "Moving? Where?"
Kate fidgeted with the hem of her shorts. "To Korea. I'm leaving tomorrow morning."
Felix's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "WHAT?! TOMORROW MORNING?!! Kate Park, don't you think you should have told me sooner?"
Kate definitely was guilty, but she had spent so much time procrastinating how she would break her best friend's heart. She stood up, ignoring the melted ice cream that was now dripping down her hand.
"Look, I'm really sorry. I tried to tell you multiple times, but every time I did-" she stopped herself, knowing she was about to cry. Felix moved closer to her, pulling her into a hug.
He had planned on preparing something to tell Kate he had the biggest crush on her. And now, here he was with the girl he liked leaving his side... to go to a different country. Part of him was mad, but he was mostly frustrated. And whenever he was in a mood, his freckles would look darker than usual under the redness of his cheeks.
"You're not m-mad at me, are y-you?" Kate stammered, trying to look him in the eyes.
Felix looked away and continued eating his ice cream. "Of course not. How could moving away be your fault?"
Kate sighed. "I guess not. Um, before I leave, is there anything you want to do?"
Felix nodded. "We have to go down to the harbor and watch the sunset behind the Sydney Opera House. It's always been on the list, and who knows when you're coming back, so might as well do it now."
Felix grabbed Kate's hand, and they ran to the harbor just in time to watch the sky's golden orb sink beneath the horizon. The sky was pinkish-purple, Kate's favorite color. They sat on the pier, nothing but silence between them.
"You'll come back, right?" Felix finally croaked.
Kate stared at the water sadly. "I'm not sure. My family is sending me there for educational purposes, but I don't know what their plans are for me after then. For all I know, Korea could be my first and last destination."
Felix pulled out his cell phone, waving it in Kate's face. "Well, you've got one of these, don't you? You better keep in touch. Don't make me come to Korea just to get you to reply back to text."
Kate laughed, wishing things could stay like this forever.
The next day at the airport, Kate's family waved to her before she disappeared into the plane. She sat in her window seat, and it wasn't long before the plane rocketed down the runway and set sights for the Incheon International Airport in South Korea. She stared glumly out the window, watching as Sydney grew farther and farther away. But there was no turning back now. She'd just have to receive what was waiting for her on the other side with open arms and hope for the best.
Two years later...
Felix stepped off the plane, taking in the new landscape before him. His parents stood by his side, and he smiled, happy knowing that Korea was now home. As soon as they stepped out of the airport, there was a van to take him to the JYP Entertainment building.
He checked himself out in the rearview mirror, still not used to the orange color he had dyed his hair before leaving Sydney. For some reason, moving to another country just wasn't a big enough change. His hair had to change, too.
As they drove, Felix stared out the window, his mind trying to keep up with everything he was seeing. He couldn't believe he actually convinced his parents to move here and let him be an idol. He honestly wanted to pursue music, but that was a little piece of his big plan.
A girl with sleek, black hair caught his attention, and then he saw her face. She looked just like Kate! Felix felt his stomach jump into his throat, and he wanted to ask the driver to pull over so that he could get a better look, but he knew he had to get to the entertainment agency as soon as possible.
Once he reached JYP, he was seated in a room without windows. A piece of paper was placed in front of him, a contract to be exact. Felix looked it over, signing it hastily.
"You must be hungry," the man said. Felix could understand Korean well because his parents spoke it at home, but he sure as heck couldn't reply.
"Yes," Felix stammered.
The man handed him some money. "Across the street is a convenience store. Go get yourself dinner there."
Convenience store food? This wasn't living up to his expectations, but he had to just bear with it until he could find Kate.
Like the man said, there was a convenience store across the road. Not sure what would sustain him until the morning, he grabbed some cup ramen, paid for it and sat down beside some girl, eating it quickly.
The girl turned and gasped loudly, startling Felix.
"Y-y-you-"
Felix's eyes widened. "Kate?"
Kate nodded. "What are you doing here?"
"Your boy is joining a Kpop boy band," Felix winked.
That seemed to surprised Kate even more. "You can sing and dance?"
"Geez, you don't have many expectations for me, do you?" Felix laughed. "But, joining JYP isn't the only reason I'm here."
Before Kate could ask, Felix kissed her. His fingers tangled themselves in her black hair, and he quickly broke away, cursing himself mentally.
"Wha-what?" Kate turned into a broken record player once again.
"I told you I'd come find you if you didn't answer your texts," Felix winked.
Kate placed a peck on his lips and settled into his warm embrace. "I'm glad that I have someone like you to chase me."
