"Pout for me," Irene commanded, and you slowly stuck out your bottom lip for her to apply a bright pop of lipstick to. "Great! You look more alive already!"
You shook your head and playfully rolled your eyes. Usually, you liked to kick back at home away from noise and just people, in general. But Irene had insisted on you coming to her New Year's party, and as much as you wanted to say no, you were curious to see what happened at these sort of things.
Irene pulled out a sparkly sequin dress, and your eyes widened in fear. You hadn't worn a dress in years. You forgot how to walk and sit in them. Your tomboyish nature meant you lived in jeans and loose t-shirts. There was not a single dress in your closet.
Reluctantly, you pulled the dress over your head, and Irene clapped. "You look like a different person! Let's just put a touch of makeup on you, and curl your hair, and we'll go to my house. We need to get to the party before the party gets there before us."
It wasn't long before guests started showing up at Irene's house. But what she had failed to tell you was that there would be really attractive boys. You knew they wouldn't give you a second glance, though. They never did, and they never would, so you had gotten better at not getting your hopes up.
"Hey everyone! I'm J.One, your DJ for tonight!" a guy at the end of the room announced into the mic set he was wearing. He immediately put on a song you recognized, and you smiled. At least you'd have some good music to keep you company tonight. The bass was so loud, you felt your stomach vibrate. But it exhilarated you a little bit.
You looked around for Irene and spotted her in the middle of the large room, dancing with some friends. Instead of joining her, you took a seat and occupied yourself on your phone, trying to pretend you were cool.
"Hey, how's the party so far?" a voice startled you, and you looked up to see Joy standing in front of you. She was also not too much of a party person, but Irene had insisted she come, as well.
"It's alright. It's not exactly my cup of tea," you laughed.
"Me neither. You think you'll get your New Year's kiss this year?" Joy asked, raising an eyebrow.
You nearly choked on the sparkling cider you were sipping. "Wh-what? New Year's kiss?" Was this like a tradition or something? If it was, you definitely didn't get the memo.
"It's sort of a thing, I guess. But there's many options tonight, don't you think? And personally, I think you're gonna get your kiss from the DJ."
You choked again. "What makes you say that?"
Joy shook her head and chuckled. "He's been looking over at you all night. Anyways, I'm gonna go find Seulgi and the others, but I'll see you later!" She waved, leaving you and your sparkling cider alone on the sofa. You sneaked a glance at the DJ and the two of you locked eyes. Immediately, a blush flared on your cheeks, and small smile crept onto his face. But it wasn't a smirk. It made you feel warm. Quickly, you finished your glass of cider and re-occupied yourself on your phone, but you could still feel his gaze on you.
No way... someone of his caliber would never go for someone like me... you persuaded yourself. That's how you had gotten hurt the first time and the second time and the time after that. Your friends had always told you that some guy liked you, and then you would get your hopes up only to have them be deflated like a balloon. You had your heart broken many times even though you had never dated. You were what they referred to as a "hopeless romantic."
"It's almost midnight!" someone next to you cheered, and soon, everyone was counting down the seconds till the New Year.
"FIVE... FOUR... THREE... TWO... ONE!"
You looked around, expecting to see people cheering and popping champagne bottles and whatnot, but surprisingly most people were locked in a kiss. There was a tap on your shoulder, and standing behind you was the DJ.
"Um, hi," you smiled shyly.
"Um, hello," the DJ grinned. "My name is Han. And you are?"
"Y/N."
Han sighed. "What a beautiful name. Listen, I'm not really into kissing strangers, but I was wondering if you'd wanna maybe go on a date sometime and not be strangers anymore? To be honest, Irene has told me a lot about you, and I've been wanting to meet you, haha."
You blushed and reminded yourself to get back at Irene later. Or actually, should you be thanking her instead?
"That sounds good," you nodded. "But let me warn you. I usually don't wear makeup or dresses or curl my hair. I'm very much into jeans and sweatshirts and messy ponytails."
Han grinned even bigger. "Perfect."

A/N: This is just a little New Years imagine I quickly whipped together, but I hope you guys liked it!! I found out recently that apparently kissing someone as soon as New Years hits is a thing...? I had no idea lol. But it made for an interesting imagine.
Question of the imagine: What's your 2019 New Year resolution(s)? Mine is to focus more on loving and taking care of myself. I realized I wasn't caring for myself at all last year, and I put a lot of things and people before my own health. But I also want to keep writing and hopefully, I will be able to post more frequently from now on. :)
