You pressed your fingers along your neck, massaging the ache that came with working long hours at the karaoke. At times like these, you wished you had gone the more conventional route and tried for jobs in coffee shops and clothes stores, but every job was intense in their own way. And tonight, you had another one of those late shifts where you wished you could just go home and curl up in bed.
But even on nights like these, there was something fueling you. You heard the door open and in walked the nine boys you had become familiar with over the past few months. They were trainees preparing to debut in a K-Pop group. After their seemingly endless rehearsals in the dance studio, they would come to the karaoke place you worked at and sing all their stresses away.
However, you had your eye on one of the members. The Australian had captivated you the first time you'd met. Something about his gaze made your heart thump.
Tonight, they were laughing about something or the other, and when you saw Chan's smile, your heart nearly leaped into your throat.
"Did something good happen today?" you greeted them.
"We're just really excited because we'll be debuting soon, but how have you been doing, Y/N?" Seungmin asked.
"Good..." you sighed. You forced yourself to peel your eyes away from the boy who was still laughing and talking with the rest of his friends. To him, you were invisible.
You quickly showed them to their room, and Seungmin and Jeongin thanked you. You ruffled the maknae's hair and left them to sing.
As you paced the hallways checking on everyone, you hummed to yourself. The reason why you had chosen to work part-time at the karaoke was definitely because of your passion for singing. Spying an empty room, you slid in and closed the door softly behind you. You picked a slow, soft song and begin singing. Your vibrato was light and delicate, but as the song grew more intense, so did your voice. You were able to put power into your notes, making them sound round and full.
The boys wiped the sweat off their brows and collapsed on the sofa in the room.
"I say we call it a day," Felix panted. "We have to be up in 3 hours to train again. We should probably get some sleep."
Chan nodded, and they all filed out of the room, but as they did, they heard this beautiful voice hit them.
"Whoa, someone's really good!" Hyunjin grinned.
Seungmin looked around but couldn't tell where the voice was coming from. The vibrato was elegant, and the voice made his heart race.
"I'll meet you outside in a second," he told the group before racing back down the hallway. He poked his head into countless rooms until the voice grew louder and louder. He rounded the corner and stumbled backwards in surprise when he saw the owner of that sweet voice.
"Y/N," he whispered, but he didn't open the door. He just watched you and smiled before quickly disappearing the same way he had come. At the moment, he had been unable to say a word. His feet felt like they could only move in the opposite direction. Was it possible that a voice could make him fall in love?
You collapsed in your bed, staring up at the ceiling. In just a few hours, you'd have to wake up so that you could make it to school on time. But like usual, it was hard to fall asleep after meeting the boys because the only thing that crossed your mind was I bet all the stars in the sky Chan doesn't like me back.
You never had the courage to say something to the Australian. Nor did you want to. You didn't want to seem pathetic. Falling for someone was hard, but letting go of them was harder. And tonight, you forced yourself to let go of your crush. Besides, who knew when you'd see them next?
A few nights later, you were taken by surprise when Seungmin walked into the karaoke by himself.
"You're not with the others today? I thought you always traveled together?"
Seungmin grinned. "I want to sing, but this time I'd like to sing with you."
The other part-time worker nudged you forward after handing you two mics. Obviously she was in full support of what was happening. You shyly led Seungmin to the room the two of you would be sharing, but you were confused. How did he know you could sing?
"I heard you the other night," Seungmin read the confusion painted across your face. "I know this is going to sound crazy, but when you sang, I could hear your heart. I wanted to hear that again and sing with that heart."
Suddenly, your cheeks felt hot. Chan who?
Seungmin pulled up one of your favorite R&B songs, and when he parted his lips to sing, your fingertips tingled. His voice sounded like honey and wrapped itself around you the way a warm blanket would. You added in your harmonization, and both of you whirled around to stare at each other, giggling at how amazing this was. Your voices blended together perfectly.
"I was wondering if you'd want to go ice skating with me," Seungmin mentioned afterwards. "You're really amazing, and I want to get to know you more."
"I'd love to," you gave him a thumbs-up.
A week later, you were at the ice skating ring with the boy group. Except you and Seungmin had strayed (pun intended) away from the others. He guided your wobbly form slowly along the ice. All you had on was a sweater and jeans, and he noticed you shivering every once in a while. Quickly, Seungmin took off his coat and swept it over your shoulders. You stared straight into his eyes, and he blushed like a tomato.
"Jeongin, don't watch!" Changbin covered the maknae's eyes.
"Whoaaaaaa so mAnLy!" Chan cheered from across the rink, and Seungmin giggled softly.
"I know this was all so sudden, but would you be interested in another date?" he asked.
You held his hand tenderly and placed it over your pounding chest. "This is my answer."
Seungmin blushed. Because even through the coat and sweater, he could feel your pulse. But more than that, he could hear your heart in your voice.

Question of the imagine: Have you ever fallen in love with someone after hearing their voice? The first time I heard Eric Nam's voice, I got goosebumps. I love his style and his voice in general, and I still can't get over it. Whose voice have you fallen for?
