Now I think I have this story together. The next few chapters should be a breeze if I play my pokémon cards right...
____________________________________"Echo! I'm back!" (y/n) announced as she entered the alchemy shop that she and Echo lived in. The nine but now thirteen year old had allowed (y/n) to live with her ever since they met. (Y/n) didn't remember much of her own past when she met Echo. In fact, she had been following a white haired boy that had shown up in the library that she had been living in. She thought that the boy was the reason that she had suddenly been moved outside the library and into a forest. With the intention to ask the boy who he was, she had followed him but got lost in the city's crowd.
(Y/n) had probably gone in circles several times before being pushed out of the crowd next to the alchemy shop that she now lived in. Back then, the only things she had with her was a little music box and a flower necklace. The only things she could remember was the boy she had seen, her identity, the memory of someone she cared about, and a lady who had given her a gift and a mission that she couldn't remember.
She didn't remember that she had psychic powers until a year later when Echo had started teaching her the ways of alchemy and (y/n) had accidentally caused an explosion. She had used her unremembered psychic ability to move Echo and herself out of the way. Echo had promised to keep her powers a secret, but (y/n) still had to make sure she didn't use her power unless absolutely necessary. Now, (y/n) was great at alchemy and could even make some of Echo's most complex potions. Of course Echo's skills still far exceeded her own, but (y/n) was still pretty good.
"Okay but now Echo has another errand for you," Echo said as (y/n) put away the materials that she had just gotten.
"What? But I just got back," (y/n) whinned.
"It's a simple task. All you need to do is deliver this letter to the community mailbox. You don't even have to travel that far," Echo said while holding out the letter.
"Since when do you send letters to people?" (y/n) asked as she took the letter, searching for who it was to be sent to.
"Echo was asked by Lowe in Ruben to become the alchemist for the newly formed El Search Party. The letter is my reply to his request," Echo informed. Sure enough, the letter was to be sent to Ruben.
"Did you say yes? Are you going to become their alchemist?" (y/n) asked.
"Echo doesn't want to become their alchemist, but Echo will send potions when asked to," Echo answered.
"Oh, okay. Then I'll be on my way then. See ya later Echo," (y/n) said as she began to leave. The community mailbox wasn't very far from where they lived, but that didn't mean the usual crowds would make it easy to get to it. Luckily, (y/n) had a way to cope with the way the crowd sometimes got on her nerves. She would hum the tune of the music box that she still had. She'd listened to it so many times that she had the whole tune memorized.
As (y/n) walked to the mailbox and hummed the music box's tune, she was able to easily weave through the crowd. When she did get to the mailbox, she stopped her humming and put Echo's reply letter where it belonged. Cobo Service should deliver it in no time. Then (y/n) began to hum the tune again as she headed back to the alchemy shop.
That was when she saw him. The white haired boy that she had been looking for all those years ago spotted her as he stood still in the middle of the moving crowd. His gaze startled her and she stopped hummimg and stood still as well. The people simply went around them, but (y/n) didn't stand still for long. Fear entered her thoughts as she wondered why this person was just standing there and staring at her after suddenly making an appearance after so many years.
There was another way to get to the alchemy shop, so (y/n) turned around and fled through the crowd. She glanced back to where the boy had been standing to find that he was trying to follow her. To attempt to shake him from her trail, she found an alley that led to another busy street and quickly slipped through the crowd towards it.
The traffic of this crowd wasn't as bad as the previous one, so (y/n) was able to find her way a lot easier. She went into another alley and peeked out to see if the boy was still following her, but she didn't see him anywhere. That was until she turned back around and found him walking towards her. Some sort of floating objects that she hadn't noticed before were surrounding him.
(Y/n), although scared half to death by the boy's sudden appearance, didn't scream or anything like that, but she did attempt to turn back and flee into the crowd. Instead, she was caught by the wrist and pulled back into the alley. "Let go of me!" (y/n) said as she attempted to free herself without the use of her psychic abilities. She didn't want to have to use them unless she had no other choice.
"Hey, stop. I just wanted to ask you a question," the boy said as he continued to restrain her, but (y/n) didn't stop fighting him.
"That doesn't mean you can try kidnapping me!" (y/n) snapped.
"I'm not kidnapping you," the boy hissed with agitation.
"Then prove it! Let me go!" (y/n) demanded.
"Will you run?" the boy asked. He would probably chase her again if she did.
"No, now let me go," (y/n) growled. When the boy let her go, (y/n) stayed true to her word and didn't run away.
"Who are you and what do you want?" (y/n) asked as she turned around to face the boy. His gaze pierced into her soul, but his eyes held a strange sort of curiosity in them.
"You were humming that song. How do you know it?" the boy asked her. Now she was confused.
"What are you talking about? I was just humming. No one seems to have a problem with it but you."
"No, I don't have a problem with it. The song came from a music box. Where'd you get the box from?" the boy asked her.
"How did you know about the box?" (Y/n) began to feel uneasy and started to back away from him.
"I just do. Now tell me where you got it from," the boy said, his voice raising.
"No. You know too much already. Who are you?" (y/n) said as she continued to back away from the boy. The things floating around him gave off a strange electrical energy that seemed threatening.
"My identity won't matter unless I'm sure where you got the music box from. Please, I need to know," the boy said. (Y/n) was very skeptical about telling him anything, but the pleading look that he gave her made her feel bad for not telling him. Besides, it wasn't like he was a total stranger since she had seen him once before.
"I don't really remember where I got it from. I've had it for as long as I can remember," she told him. (Y/n) froze when the boy only kept staring at her.
"You're her. You really are her. But how did you get here?" he muttered.
"I don't know what you're talking about but I have to go," (y/n) said as she turned away from the odd boy with the intention to leave him there.
"(Y/n) wait!" This stopped her in her tracks.
"How do you know my name? I didn't tell you," she asked, her voice slightly shaking as she turned around.
The boy shook his head at her. "You did tell me. You just don't remember," he said. And just like that, (y/n) found herself in a hug. She flinched from the sudden contact having not been prepared for it, yet something about the hug felt familiar so (y/n) didn't push the boy away. "You're actually alive," he whispered to her. The statement suddenly brought back a memory that (y/n) was sure had been missing until now. A mansion. A boy who she tried to protect. A separation that lasted for years. She knew him now, and she was glad that she did.
