The end is almost near but before that, this chapter needs to be put here.
____________________________________"I can help you. I've seen the sadness and heartbreak that you've gone through everyday. I've noticed that you've lost all hope. I've seen that you still love her, and I can help you bring her back," she said. Add quickly turned around at the sound of her voice, knowing exactly who it was.
"This is another dream I assume. Otherwise you wouldn't be here. Why are you here anyway? I could have sworn that you disappeared long ago," Add spoke.
"I wish I could truly disappear but I can't. My fate is worse than that of Esper. I must watch the suffering of this time period for all eternity. You were never meant to have a happy ending," (y/n)'s ghost explained.
"I kinda figured that out a long time ago," Add mumbled.
"Don't lose hope though. I have the power to change your fate which will change mine as well," she announced with a slight smile.
"How? You're (y/n)'s ghost. There isn't much you can really do," Add said. She disappeared from his sight as usual.
"Trust me. I have ways. Unlike (y/n), I still retain my psychic power even after death thus the reason I am unable to fade. I can give her back the memories that she lost," she said into his ear for she had reappeared behind him. He didn't bother to turn around and instead sat on the nonexistent ground.
"How is any of that even possible?" Add asked. Much of this ordeal had seemed impossible. This wasn't far from it.
"I'm the result of the Esper's timeline, a true time and space anomaly. I cannot exist other than in one's mind or as a ghost. I cannot disappear even if I wanted to. It's truly a curse that I am trying to turn into a gift," (y/n)'s ghost said.
"So you really can bring her memories back?"
"Yes but no. I can, but I will only bring back good memories and replace any bad ones with false memories. I'm doing this for both of our benefit," she replied. Add's hope vanished when she gave such conditions.
"What good would she be if she couldn't remember any of the bad memories. Most of them are the memories that made her the person that she is...well was. There's a trace of her left in there somewhere. I saw it for a moment. She showed it to me but it vanished as soon as it showed. I thought she had recovered, but it was only just a glimpse of what was left of her," Add grimly recalled.
"Are you telling me that you don't want me to restore her memories?" (y/n)'s ghost asked.
"I'm telling you not to take away the person that she is," Add replied.
"I'm sorry. I can't do that. I'll only do what I see fit. No bad memories means you'll both be happy and that's all that matters to me. As for you, you'll get over it. I'm sure you will."
"If you do that, you won't be making me happy," Add said.
"But you'll surely be happier," (y/n)'s ghost countered. She kissed Add's cheek and disappeared for good this time. It was only afterwards that Add woke up. He immediately got up and headed to (y/n)'s room to check on her, but she wasn't in her room. He then noticed the noise coming from the kitchen. Had (y/n)'s ghost already done what she said she'd do? Slowly, Add made his way to the kitchen indeed finding that she was there.
"Morning Add! Did you sleep well?" she asked without even looking up from the book that she was reading. She had her alchemy supplies spread out on the kitchen counters and was in the process of creating something new. Add did not reply to her though. He only kept staring at her. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I just..." he was saying. He didn't exactly know what to say. Instead be just went over to (y/n) and hugged her. "I love you," he whispered, holding back his tears.
"I know. You tell me all the time. Is something wrong? You seem a little sad," she said.
"No, nothing's wrong. Everything is fine," Add lied. He couldn't tell her, even if he wanted to, about everything that had taken place. She was already showing him that she remembered nothing bad, not even memories of him feeling overly sad. Despite her not remembering, he still loved her and was glad that she at least knew who he was no matter how much he still hurt.
[Months Later]
"Add, wake up!" he heard (y/n) say. He jolted awake, the fear from the nightmare still present. Then he was hugged and that fear slowly melted away. "This is the fifth nightmare you've had this week."
"I can't do anything about them," Add said. He was now the spitting image of Esper. Not that he minded at all since Esper was someone that he no longer despised in any way.
"What happened this time?" (y/n) asked him.
"Nothing, don't worry about it." He had pretty much relived the incident where Reikon was involved except (y/n) had died there.
"You always tell me that and I always leave you alone afterwards but I'm tired of seeing you like this. I'm tired of you hiding things from me," (y/n) said.
"I haven't been hiding things from you," Add denied.
"And you're lying again. I know you're lying. I can read minds remember," (y/n) pointed out.
"No you can't. Only the past you could....wait how did you...?" Add said, now in shock.
"I told you. I can read minds. My powers and real memories started coming back after I found this," (y/n) said as she let him go and reached over to the drawer of her nightstand, pulling a music box from it. "I only played it while you were gone but when I did, it brought the memories back bit by bit. I don't think I remember everything though," (y/n) explained.
"Where did you find that?" Add asked. He had destroyed the original one a long time ago out of anger and despair, so there was no way possible that it could have just shown up.
"It was just in my room one day with a note sitting next to it," (y/n) answered with a shrug.
"What did that note say?" Add asked, desperate to know who had done this.
"If you're getting this, (y/n), it means that you are still wondering what's been going on in my mind for the past few months. According to what you remember, I don't usually act like this right? But you see, your memories are wrong. They were given to you and many were replaced with false ones. I finally figured out a way to bring back these lost memories, but you'll need to pay close attention to my next words. Do not let me hear the music box, nor should you let me see it, until you're sure that you've remembered enough. In case you were wondering who I am, I'm still Add. - Mad Paradox," (y/n) recited from memory. His future self. It had to have been his future self. That was the only explanation. "You have a lot of explaining to do," (y/n) scolded
"Yeah, I guess I do but I honestly don't want to," Add muttered.
"Do you need more persuasion? I'm sure I could find whoever this Mad Paradox is...or maybe I could do something else."
"Do what? There's nothing else that you could do to..." Add was saying but he was cut off. (Y/n) kissed him and he didn't dare pull away. Instead he pulled (y/n) closer and ran his free hand through her hair, savoring everything he felt. All of his worries vanished and his sorrows melted away.
"How about now?" (y/n) asked when she had pulled away from him.
Add kept her in his hold, pressing his head to hers. "I think I need a little more persuasion," he breathed.
"Nah, I think you'll be fine," (y/n) said with a laugh.
And so Add finally got his happy end and (y/n) eventually remembered everything. The two lived together throughout time and space even after Add failed to save his mother, but he was still happy because (y/n) was there to make sure that he was.
