____________________________________She thought that it was all a dream or perhaps a place she had been sent to. She was almost certain that she had died just now. (Y/n) sat up away from the grass where she had been laying. The action startled her because she realized that she wasn't on the grass at all. In fact, she was a few inches above it and surrounded in some sort of magenta glow. Being only four years old, (y/n) thought that the glowing was pretty and focused more on it than she did her own surroundings.
The girl hadn't entirely noticed the fact that she was in the yard of a large mansion hidden in the forest. She had began to laugh in delight as she played with her floating hair. Her past memory of the death was slowly fading. When she got tired of playing with her hair, she took notice of the mansion which also caused her to notice a little boy watching her off in the distance.
He was sitting on the steps of the mansion and now stood as he realized that what he was seeing was not a mere illusion. Knowing that the boy was aware of her presence startled (y/n), and the glowing energy around her suddenly went out. She fell those few inches that separated her from the ground. "Ow," she muttered when she landed.
The boy had started to walk towards her slowly and unsure of himself. (Y/n) stood and stared at him as he did so. He was almost five feet away when she made the decision to run. She didn't know why she waited until then. Maybe her registry of fear wasn't working properly at the time. All she knew was that she had taken off towards the forest without any destination in mind.
"Wait, don't leave!" the boy called out. (Y/n) stopped almost immediately and turned to look at the boy for only a moment before she began to run again. "Come back! Please!" he called. This time (y/n) stopped permanently. After returning to him, saw that he had tears at the corners of his eyes.
"You've been crying," (y/n) stated. The boy said nothing to her in response and only watched her.
"How did you get here? I thought this place was hidden," the boy said. (Y/n) tilted her head at him.
"I don't really remember. I woke up and...wait...what happened after that?" (y/n) said, muttering that last part to herself.
"You were floating," the boy said. He made hand gestures to represent the action of floating.
"I was? Was I really floating?" (y/n) asked in surprise.
"Yes you were. I saw you from over there. Don't you remember?" the boy answered.
(Y/n) stood there for a moment trying to remember but found that she couldn't. "Umm no. I don't think I do," she replied. She looked at the boy now wondering when he'd gotten there.
"You shouldn't be here. You could get into trouble if someone sees you," the boy said. (Y/n) looked around and wondered where she could go other than here. "Come on. I can take you somewhere safe until you remember where your family is." The boy held out a hand to her to take.
"My family? I have a family?" the girl mumbled in wonder. She took the boy's hand and let him lead her towards the huge house. The boy peeked into the door to see if anyone was there. When he was sure that no one was around, he started to run pulling (y/n) along with him. They ran through the large home, stopping every now and then at the boy's command when he thought someone was coming, until they finally made it to a certain room. The boy let her hand go and opened the door.
"You can hide in my room for now," he said as he walked inside. Out of curiosity, (y/n) followed him and he closed the door behind her. She went over to the bed but rather than sitting on it, she sat on the floor in front of it. The room was simply decorated and quite normal despite it being a part of such an enormous house.
"Where are we?" (y/n) asked the boy as he sat across from her.
"We're in my room. The house is hidden, so it looks like a regular forest if you look down at it from above. My father told me that," the boy said. (Y/n)'s curiosity got the best of her again, so she got up and looked around.
"How old are you?" the boy suddenly asked.
"Hm? I'm four. I know that because a mark appears on my arm for each year old I am. I have four marks, so I am four! But you don't have any marks. How do you know how old you are?" (y/n) spoke as she looked at the boy's arms wondering where his marks were.
"I don't have marks because that isn't how you remember how old you are. You're supposed to count the years that pass after your first birthday. You do know what a birthday is don't you?" the boy explained.
"I don't know. I think I did...but then I think I forgot," (y/n) said in response. She was still exploring his room. "Does that mean you know how old you are?"
The boy nodded at her. "I'm six," he replied. (Y/n) still didn't quite understand how he knew this with no marks to prove it, but she didn't dwell on the matter for very long.
"What's your name? You do remember, don't you?" the boy asked her as she walked around his room.
"Name? My name is (y/n), I think," she muttered.
"Why can't you remember anything (y/n)?"
"I don't know but there is something I do know. You're supposed to tell me what your name is if I tell you mine. My mommy told me that that's how you introduce yourself to a person," (y/n) said as she went over to the boy and sat in front of him.
"Oh, well then my name is Edward. Edward Grenore," the boy said.
"Do you have a mommy too, Edward?" (y/n) asked. Before he could answer her question, someone shouted his name. The person did not seem friendly like Edward was, and Edward seemed to be afraid of the voice himself. He stood quickly and pulled (y/n) up with him.
"You have to hide," he whisper yelled.
"Hide where?" (y/n) asked, mimicking his whispering. She knew the concept of hiding very well for some reason. Edward looked around the room frantically as footsteps boomed towards his room.
"Under the bed! Hurry!" he instructed. (Y/n) quickly scurried under the bed. Edward told her to stay quiet no matter what and he disappeared from her sight. She heard the bed slightly creak as Edward jumped onto it just as the footsteps reached his door. The door was thrown open, but (y/n) couldn't see anything but the person's shoes.
"Edward, why are you in here?" the voice of this man asked. He did not yell nor was his voice raised at all, yet annoyance and authority seeped through his speech. He didn't give Edward time to answer. "You are late! What did I tell you about being late?!" he roared. Now his voice was raising and it was frightening.
"I'm sorry," Edward said quietly as he got down from the bed and went over to the man.
"I don't want to hear it! Come on. You're messing up my schedule and wasting my time," the man growled (Y/n) didn't see it happen, but the man took hold of Edward's arm and pulled him out the door. What she did know was that the man slammed the door shut afterwards. (Y/n) was too afraid to even think about moving from her hiding place amd began to wonder if Edward would come back later. She decided that he would, so she stayed under the bed. After a while of waiting for Edward to return, she fell asleep there.
