"(y/n)! Go pick some more wolfsbane!" Your mother called from downstairs. You sighed and rolled out of bed, throwing on some clothes and gathering what you had left of the herb before leaving the house.
In your town, wolfsbane was considered a necessity. The townspeople believed that wolfsbane was what kept The Wolves away but in reality, they just didn't have a reason to come into the village. You hoped that one day you would be able to see one for yourself.
Ironically, the wolfsbane grew on the border where the town ended and The Forest began. You kicked up dirt as you walked, watching how the dust settled on your boots. You reached the border in a few minutes' time, kneeling down to pick the herbs from the ground.
After a few minutes of harvesting, you jumped at the sound of a branch snapping. You looked up and almost gasped when a pair of golden eyes stared back at you from the bushes. You stood up slowly, not breaking eye contact with the bulbs.
Suddenly, the creature emerged and you were faced with the biggest creature you had ever seen. The animal was bigger than an average wolf, making you realize that this was no ordinary wolf. It was a werewolf.
"H-Hello. You're much bigger than I imagined you would be." You smiled softly as you spoke even softer. The beast shrunk away, retreating halfway into the bush.
"No! Please don't leave! I've always wanted to meet one of your kind. C-Can you understand me?" You asked as his nose twitched in acknowledgement. The creature nodded softly, lowering his head in interest.
"Amazing! Can I see your human form?" You asked, coming closer to him. The werewolf nodded hunkering down behind the bush for a few minutes before a man took his place. He had lean muscle and his hair was the same color as what his coat had been. A shiny, jet black. The only thing that let you know that it was the same creature was his golden eyes.
"I've never interacted with someone from the village before. They always run away screaming. Not you, apparently." The man smirked, crossing his arms and leaning against the tree.
"I'm not scared. I think werewolves are interesting." You smiled wide. You were so amazed that you were finally getting to meet a wolf.
Suddenly, another wolf appeared out of the brush. He had a dark brown coat and the same golden eyes. The human wolf acknowledged the other with a nod, letting him know that everything was okay.
"It's okay, Baekhyun." He said under his breath.
"So he's Baekhyun. What's you're name?" You asked the human wolf.
"I'm Jongdae. You?" He smiled.
"I'm (y/n). Nice to meet you, Jongdae!" You smiled.
Suddenly, you heard a gunshot and Baekhyun yelped, falling to the ground. Jongdae ran to his side before horses surrounded you.
"(y/n)! What are you doing fraternizing with these beasts?" A strong voice bellowed. It was the guard captain, Minho. He had a liking towards you but you wanted nothing to do with him.
"Minho, are you crazy?!" You screamed, running to help Baekhyun. The wounded animal whined as Jongdae gently stroked his head.
"(y/n), go home. I'll take him back to our house. He'll be okay. It's not safe for you here. Go." Jongdae growled, his eyes turning red as he tended to his injured brother. You nodded and allowed Minho to escort you home.
"What do you think you're doing? Those are dangerous creatures, (y/n). You could have been killed." Minho sighed as you walked alongside his horse. You ignored him, turning your head around to watch as Jongdae shifted back into his wolf form and coaxed Baekhyun onto his back, carrying him away into The Forest. You hoped that the young wolf would be okay but you wanted to see Jongdae again as well. When you met eyes with him, you felt like you knew him already. You wanted to know him better.
