A few months passed after Chanyeol killed Minho. Your mother was now an official member of the pack, turning out to be Junmyeon's mate. It was a little awkward but you and Jongdae were used to it.
Recently, Jongdae had been really interested in the idea of having babies. Junmyeon had made it very clear that a human/Wolf hybrid would be a very difficult thing to control but other than that, there was nothing severely wrong that could happen.
"If you two have a baby, I have to take Soomi and get new equipment because I don't have any of that stuff." Tao said worriedly.
"I would think you would need special machines for a hybrid." You thought. Tao chuckled and shook his head.
"Not at all. It's the same process. Well, you've never seen this type of equipment but don't worry. I know how to use them." Tao smiled. Jongdae wrapped his arms around your waist and held you close.
"Don't worry. You'll be in good hands." He smiled against your skin. You leaned your head against your mate's, feeling safe in his arms. Your mother came down the stairs with Junmyeon behind her.
"Are you all talking about the baby stuff again? When is it gonna happen? I want my grandchild." Your mother pouted. You giggled and kissed Jongdae's cheek.
"Soon, mama. I promise." You smiled as Jongdae nuzzled further into your neck.
"Babies are a lot of responsibility, Chen. You think you can handle all that?" Chanyeol smirked as he chewed on a toothpick with his body pressed against the door frame to the kitchen. Jongdae growled and held you tighter. You giggled and ruffled your mate's hair.
"It's okay, Chan. I'll be here to help him." You smiled, making Jongdae whine.
"What makes you think I won't be able to handle it?" He asked you sadly.
"It's not that I think you can't handle it, Dae. It's just that you're a little bit aloof at times. It's not a bad thing. You just need to focus a bit more. You'll be an amazing father, baby. I know you will." You said softly, stroking your mate's hair softly. Jongdae almost purred as your fingers ran across his scalp.
"He'll be fine, Chanyeol. Leave him alone. His instincts will kick in." Soomi smiled as she entered the room with her mate behind her. Soomi had grown ill so Baekhyun had never left her side. She was thin, pale, and weak. Her once beautiful, platinum blonde hair had begun to fall out, leaving open spaces behind. Minseok got up from his spot on the couch and helped Baekhyun settle Soomi on the couch. You sat next to her and took her hand.
"Ready for your injection, Mi?" Tao asked. She nodded with a small smile.
"I'll go get your water, beautiful." Baekhyun said softly, kissing her cheek before standing up and jogging up the stairs.
"How are you feeling, Soomi?" You asked as Jongdae sat down on the chair arm next to you.
"A little better. I only threw up twice this morning. I think I'm scaring, Baekhyun. He seemed terrified. I feel so bad." Soomi sighed. You shook your head and hugged her softly.
"He's still here. You're not scaring him." You said. She shook her head and cupped her face in her hands. Her body shook with silent sobs before you pulled her into your chest.
"He probably thinks I'm so ugly... My hair, I pulled more out this morning and it hurts to shift..." Soomi cried. You sighed and rocked her back and forth before Baekhyun came back down the stairs. He saw his mate crying and crossed the room in two strides to get to her. He gently took her from you and stroked her hair.
"Hey, it's okay. You're so beautiful, baby. This sickness does not change how I see you in any way. I love you, princess. Nothing will ever change that." Baekhyun whispered softly, rocking his mate in his arms as she cried. You sighed and leaned against Jongdae, his arm snaked across your chest and pulled you into his side.
Tao came back into the room with a syringe and needle full of Soomi's vaccine. She saw it and cuddled closer to her mate, shying away from the needle. Baekhyun noticed and rubbed her back.
"It'll be over soon, love. Just a pinch, alright?" He said softly, kissing her head. She nodded and pulled away, wiping her face on the sleeves of Baekhyun's hoodie that she had been wearing. Tao kneeled down next to her and motioned for her to lift her shorts. She did as she was told, bracing herself for the needle to enter her her skin. Tao pushed the object into her thigh, injecting the vaccine into her bloodstream. Baekhyun held her close to ease her stress.
"All done. You did well." Tao smiled softly, wiping the area clean and going back into his lab. Soomi sighed and relaxed against Baekhyun's chest.
"I heard Tao talking about taking Soomi to get new equipment. Is that really necessary?" Baekhyun growled. Soomi glared at him, trying her best to sit up.
"I want to help them, Baek." Soomi said. Baekhyun shook his head.
"No. You're not strong enough to time travel yet. I'd be a terrible mate if I let you do that to yourself."
"Baekhyun's right. I don't want you to hurt yourself, Mi. You said it yourself that it hurts to shift." You said, regretting it as soon as the words left your lips. Baekhyun gasped and stared down at his mate.
"You never told me that! Baby, is that true?" Baekhyun asked, looking shocked. Soomi sighed and nodded.
"I'm sorry. I wanted to make you happy. You love it when I run with you and I thought the more I shift, the stronger I'll get. It's not working." She sighed. Baekhyun whimpered and nuzzled against her cheek.
"Baby..." Baekhyun whimpered, holding onto her tighter. "Are you dying?" He could feel his connection to her fading.
"I'm sorry..." Soomi whimpered, nuzzling closer to her mate. Baekhyun cried harder as the connection broke. He held her closer to him. Nobody knew what to do. Your mother was the first to move, pounding on Tao's door.
"Tao! Help! It's Soomi!" She cried out. You covered your mouth with your hand and crawled into Jongdae's lap. He wrapped his arms around you and tucked your head into his shoulder. Tao came running out and flew to Soomi. He touched her forehead and hung his head low. Baekhyun screamed and held his dying mate's body closer to him, tears pouring down his cheeks.
"No... Soomi, I'm so sorry... I love you, baby. I will always love you. I hope you're not hurting anymore." He whimpered. Minseok hugged the younger Wolf from behind, shushing him.
"You're gonna be okay, Hyunnie. We're here. You'll get through this." Minseok said softly. Baekhyun whimpered, refusing to let Soomi's body go.
"Baek, we need bury her..." Tao said softly.
"Tao, leave him be. Give him some time." Junmyeon said softly, making Tao nod and step away from the grieving Wolf. Jongdae placed a hand on Baekhyun's shoulder before taking your hand and going upstairs to leave him alone.
