Chapter 41

You pushed open the door to your bedroom slowly, kissing Soomi's head as she stirred.

"Shhh... It's okay, my love. I'm right here. It's time for bed, my angel." You said softly as you laid her down in her crib. You watched her for a second before turning away to go back downstairs to wait for Jongdae. Before you could reach the door, your mind was flooded with images of your mate bleeding out into the dirt. His black fur was matted with blood and he was barely breathing.

When the vision had gone away, you staggered backwards in shock.

"Jongdae..." You whispered before running to find Junmyeon. When you found him you were trying hard to speak but the words wouldn't come out.

  "(Y/n). Breath. What's wrong?"

  "It's Jongdae. Something's wrong. I had a vision... He was hurt badly." You whimpered.

  "Where is he?"

  "I don't know. He went for a run."

  "By himself?! Goddamnit... Go tell Chanyeol to meet me outside." Junmyeon growled before running out the front door. You ran to find Chanyeol. Jisoo opened the bedroom door and Chanyeol was standing behind her.

  "(Y/n), what's wrong?" Chanyeol asked, sensing your anxiety.

  "It's Jongdae. Junmyeon's outside waiting for you. I had a vision of him bleeding out." At the sound of your news, Chanyeol was out the door. Jisoo saw your worry and hugged you tight.

  "Hey, honey, he's gonna be okay. They'll find him."

  "He's all alone, hurt... My Jongdae..." You whimpered as she held you tight.

Jongdae's POV

  Chen padded through the Forest, the cold night air was cool inside his lungs. He heard a branch snap and his attention was alerted to a bush a few yards away.

  Suddenly, the same black Wolf that hurt Jangmi lunged at Chen. He slashed his side, leaving a deep gash. Chen yelped in pain, trying to get up but Taeyong bit into his neck and launched him against a tree. Another loud yelp left him before he lost consciousness.

  Taeyong kicked dirt over Chen before bounding away into the bushes.

  An hour passed before Suho and Chanyeol found Chen. Suho shifted and Junmyeon ran to Chen's side.

  "Chen. Oh god... Chen, wake up. Your mate and pup need you. You can't give up this easily." Junmyeon said softly as Chen let out a pained whine as Chanyeol wiggled his head underneath his body to lift him up. Junmyeon shifted and leaned down to help the general lift the injured Wolf.

  When they reached the house, Chen was fading fast. They needed to get him close to his mate. Chanyeol shifted and ran inside.

  "(Y/n)! Bring Soomi now! He's not gonna make it. I'm so sorry..." The general said sadly. You could feel it in your heart that something was wrong and you sobbed as you held your baby girl close to your chest. You walked outside slowly to see your mate laying down in the dirt, just like your vision.

  "No... Chen..." You whimpered as you ran to him. You collapsed next to him and settled Soomi next to him. She shifted and nuzzled against him. She licked his nose, trying to make him look at her. She started to whine and nudged him harder. He let out a pained sigh as he made eye contact with you. You could see the pain in his eyes and knew that he needed to go. You sobbed and touched your forehead between his eyes.

  "We'll be okay. Sleep. I love you, Chen. Tell Jongdae I love him." You sighed. You could feel your connection fading. Chen was whining and fidgeting. You could feel him fighting it so you stroked his head softly.

  "It's alright, Chen. You can let go. We'll be okay here. You did well. Let go." You whispered, leaning over to kiss his head.

  When he finally let go, you felt the connection break. Now you knew how Baekhyun felt when he lost his mate. It was the worst pain you had ever felt. You sobbed and clung to the black Wolf tightly as the rest of the pack circled around you. Your mother knelt down and held you as you cried. Jangmi nuzzled into her father's body and whined loudly. Tao walked over to sooth the grieving pup while Minseok sat down next to you and placed a hand on your back to use his power to ease your pain.

  "It's gonna be okay, (y/n). We're all here for you." Minseok sighed as he glanced at his brother's body. He buried his face in your back as tears fell down his face. The pack all shifted and approached you. Baekhyun nudged Chen's body, letting you know that he needed to be buried. You sniffed and nodded, taking Jangmi from Tao to allow him to shift. The small pup howled loudly and tried to break away from you but you held her tightly.

  "No, baby. Let them help Appa. It's okay, Jangmi. Eomma's here." You whimpered as Jangmi whimpered as she watched her uncles bury her father. The pain you felt was unbearable but you had to be strong for your daughter. Your mother hugged you and Jisoo and Dongsoo did as well.

  "I'm so sorry..." You could hear Jongdae's voice in your head and it hurt. Your pup whimpered and howled loudly as you watched the pack perform their burying ritual. The sight made you sob.

  "Jongdae was the strongest Wolf of our pack. He risked everything in his life for everyone and he loved with his entire heart. He gave us new members and he showed us that the humans are not meant to be feared but to be protected. His mate has changed our pack for the better and she will continue to do so. Our little Soomi will carry on her father's legacy. May she be as strong as her father and as kind as her mother. We love you brother." Junmyeon said in thought as the rest of the pack repeated his last line. They all broke away from the circle to walk up the steps, each one shifting. Baekhyun was the first to approach you.

  "I'm sorry, (y/n). I know how you feel. It hurts and that pain never goes away but we are always here for you. If you need any advice, please come to me. I don't want you to end up like I did." Baekhyun said softly as he hugged you tight. Jangmi nuzzled into him and whimpered.

  "Thank you, Baek." You sighed before turning away to go to bed. You weren't in the mood to listen to anyone talk about how sorry they were. You just wanted to be alone with your baby girl.
