A Moonlit Dream

Chapter 4

"Hey, Chen! Pass the butter please!" Kyungsoo growled, hitting Jongdae in the face with a bread roll. Jongdae had been daydreaming about (y/n) and didn't hear his brother trying to grab his attention.

"Oh, shit! Sorry, hyung! Here you go." He said feverishly, passing Kyungsoo the butter.

"Is everything alright, Dae? You seem off." Minseok asked worriedly, feeding himself more bacon.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'll tell you later." Jongdae mumbled, eating more of his food so that he couldn't answer anymore questions. Minseok sighed and glanced at Junmyeon, knowing that the alpha knew what was going on.

After breakfast, Jongdae went outside, jumping off the front porch as a human and landing in the foliage as a wolf. He ran for the village, needing to see her again. Minseok watched him go, turning into a wolf as well and following him at a safe distance.

Once Jongdae saw the tops of the houses, he ducked behind a bush, waiting to see if she would come again. A few minutes passed before he could smell her sweet scent growing stronger. She was coming back.

Minseok shifted back into his human form before hiding behind a tree, keeping close watch on the situation. What was Jongdae up to?

Suddenly, a girl came into view and Jongdae's ears perked up. That's what he was doing. He found his mate.

You walked closer to the border, hoping that Jongdae would come back. You noticed the golden eyes staring at you from the bush and smiled.

"Hello, Jongdae. You came back." Jongdae emerged from the bush and walked over to you, nudging your hand with his snout. You laughed and took the hint that he wanted you to pet him. His jet black fur was soft and inviting and his body was warm as he pressed himself closer to you.

"You're just a big puppy, huh?" You sighed, scratching behind his ear. Jongdae growled at the statement and you giggled when he shook his head.

Suddenly, you could hear a horse coming and immediately turned around to see Minho.

"Really, (y/n)? Haven't you learned your lesson?" He sighed, going for his gun. Jongdae barked loudly before jumping in front of you. The fur along his spine stood straight up. Minho yelled in shocked and accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting you in the leg. You screamed in pain, falling against Jongdae when he moved to catch you. Minho realized what he did and fled. Jongdae gently settled you on the ground before turning back into a human.

"(y/n)! Oh god, you're gonna be okay. I'll take you to the house and Tao can help you. Can I carry you?" He asked softly. You nodded, biting your tongue to stop yourself from sobbing. Minseok emerged from behind the tree and fell on his knees beside Jongdae.

"I'll shift and you can place her on my back. You need to stay in human form so you can comfort her. Got it?" Minseok said hurriedly. Jongdae nodded and gently picked you up so Minseok could shift before settling you down gently on his back. You could feel Jongdae next to you, his warmth calming you down. His hand stroked the hair out of your face gently, whispering reassuring things to you.

"You're gonna be okay. I'm here. We're taking you back to the house and Tao can heal you. He's our healer. You'll be in good hands." Jongdae said softly as he walked beside Minseok through The Forest.

When you got there, Jongdae lifted you off of Minseok's back and ran up the front steps and into the living room.

"Tao! I need help!" He screamed, setting you down of the couch before running to find the healer. Minseok sat beside you, rubbing your shoulder.

"We're gonna take care of you, (y/n). I promise." He said softly. Jongdae came back in with a taller man with blonde hair.

"Why is someone always getting shot when you come back home? Stop leaving, Chen!" Tao groaned, settling down beside you before examining your leg.

"Chen?" You asked in confusion, wincing when Tao's fingers grazed over the wound. Jongdae pushed Minseok out of the way and sat in his place, rubbing your shoulder.

"It's my Wolf name. Minseok's is Xuimin, we call Tao by his Wolf name. His real name is Zitao."

"I hate my real name." Tao mumbled as he picked up a pair of tweezers. Jongdae noticed because he gripped your hand tightly.

"This is gonna hurt, babe. Squeeze my hand if you need to." Jongdae said softly. Did he just call you babe? That was the last thought that went through your mind before intense pain ripped through your leg as Tao started to search for the bullet. Minseok came back into the room with a towel, balling it up and motioning for you to open your mouth.

"Junmyeon's asleep so we need to keep her quiet." He said softly. You groaned when Tao finally came out with the bullet trapped between the tweezers. You immediately relaxed as Jongdae's arm wrapped around your shoulders.

"It's all done. You did great." He said softly, nuzzling your cheek. You unconsciously returned his gesture, needing to feel close to him for some reason. Minseok took the towel away and Tao set to work cleaning and dressing the wound.

"What's going on down here?" Baekhyun came down with the help of Soomi.

"She got hurt." Jongdae said, never leaving your side.

"Is this her?!" Soomi asked excitedly. Jongdae nodded with a smile. You had no idea what it was they were talking about.

"What's going on?" You asked. Jongdae sighed, not knowing if he was ready to explain the mating process to her just yet.

  "I'll tell you later, baby. Just focus on getting better." Jongdae said with a sigh, standing up to go grab you some water.
