"Do you like me?" I asked Finn as I sat beside him as he drove. "Of course." He lit his cigarette, and put one hand on the wheel. "I adore you." He smirked, making me feel crazy inside.
"Let's do something, crazy!" I blurted out. Finn shot his head towards me. "Okay." He said plainly. "Let's go, to the country side and play our music as loud as we can!" I say in excitement. "You're fucking insane," Finn began. "But I like it."_
I sat at the kitchen table, while Noah sat up on the counter, and Sadie leaning on the edge. "You're such a trooper," Sadie said out of the blue. "Huh?" I scratched my knee. "ugh, you're so.. what's the word.." Sadie rubbed her chin in thought. "Bitchy?" Noah spat out, making Sadie laugh. "Suck a dick." I stuck my tongue out at the brunette, and continued to listen to Sadie. "Confident." Sadie finished. "Oh," I say in shock. "thank you?" I giggle. "You're so cool Mills. You went through all of this shit the past few weeks, and you're so strong." Sadie made me smile as she tossed me my hoodie. "Where're we going?" I asked. "Finn's. I'll explain on the way." Sadie said down the hallway. Noah grunted and followed us behind.
"So, prom is coming up." Sadie said as we drove down the lane. I hated this lane because it wasn't paved. It was just rocks that made me feel weird. Especially the sound.
"Are you going?" I ask like a little kid. "I dunno." Sadie shrugged. "Millie you should come with us." Noah said. "Could I actually?" I didn't know that me, of all people would be going to prom. Even though I was in the eleventh grade, I think I could pass for a twelfth grader. "Yeah, it'll be fun." Noah rolled down his window. "I hate this song." Noah climbed onto Sadie as he reached for the buttons to change the stations. "Noah!" Sadie giggled as he used her head as support.Sadie knocked on the door several times, but no one answered. "C'mon." I guided them both to the side of the house where the garbage bins were. "I always go this way." I point. "No way I'm climbing up that." Noah crossed his arms. "Don't be a pussy, Noah." Sadie grabbed his arm and helped the boy up after me. Sadie was the last to get up onto the roof. Finn's window was wide open. We let ourselves in. The boy was playing his music so loud, along with his guitar in hand. Once he saw us he quickly put his cigarette down and turned off the music. He just chuckled, but not like his usual giggles. I suddenly heard footsteps, jogging up the stairs outside of Finn's bedroom. I was curious to see who it was. "Bro I got the-"
It was Caleb.
Oh shit.
I immediately thought of Sadie. She has been avoiding Caleb for a long time ever since she told me she liked girls. I looked at her with worry. "Oh shit." Caleb was drunk, I think we could all tell. "Well well well, if it isn't little miss red, with her skanky friends." Caleb stood beside Finn. Finn stumbled back onto the bed without a care in the world. "Caleb go away." Sadie said helplessly. "Says who?" He asked back. "Says me." She argued. "This is my house," the dark skinned boy began. "I can do, and go wherever I want. So guess what princess," he stood close to Sadie's face. "I'm not leaving." I gulped so loud I think Texas heard it. Of course Noah was the guy in our little friend group who was the only boy in this situation, and he was supposed to protect us. But, nope.
Noah stood behind me as if I was his protective mother. "Finn.." I questioned him as he still lay on the bed. He just growled in response, like a hungry lion. "Well shit, this is great isn't it Finnie boy?" Caleb played. So many questions and thoughts and curiosity was flowing through my head in this moment I didn't know what to do. I could tell Noah was nervous, he's always nervous. Sadie just stood there like a tree trunk, it was her only defence. "And look what we have here?" Caleb tripped on his own shoe lace as he walked over to me. I leaned against the wall.
I was honestly scared of him.
I could see why Sadie left him.
"You're the girl everyone talks about.." he slurred his words as I watched his white teeth move. "the seizure girl." He smirks. "Fuck off." I spit at him. "you don't know anything about me." I say sternly. "Finn here has told me a lot about you." He backed away, finally making my breath release. "Leave her alone." Sadie stepped in. "You shouldn't be hanging out with people like them red," Caleb said. "or people like him," he looked over at Noah.
"He's a bloody fairy."
