Lafayette walked over and helped Alexander lift John to his feet. John groaned and looked around again once he was up. Alexander started rambling and talking a lot like he does and Lafayette kept trying to get his attention.
"Alexander." John said softly. To everyone else's surprise, Alexander stopped talking when John said his name.
"Wow. You gotta teach me how to do that." Angelica said, shocked.
Alexander looked at John, waiting for him to say something, still smiling. John pointed behind Alexander, at Lafayette who had his arms crossed. Alexander looked at Lafayette.
"Alexander, Thomas is gone."
Alexander's smile faded. He cursed under his breath and muttered, "Jefferson". He let go of John's hand and spun around, looking around. John looked around as well, but confused.
John grabbed Alexander's shoulder and walked up next to him. "Alexander, what does he mean, Thomas is gone? He was here before?"
Alexander turned to look at John, a mixed look of shock, confusion, and hurt on his face. "W-what? He was here...Do you not remember?"
John shook his head. "I haven't seen him since before I went on vacation to South Carolina." The others looked at one another, confused, Angelica being the most so.
Lafayette uncrossed his arms, looking at John. "You do not know what happened?" He said, English breaking. John shook his head and Alexander put his hands on John's arms and looked straight into his brown eyes.
"John, you got back about a week ago now. Since you got back you've been acting strange; not yourself. You were...aggressive and distant." Alexander put his hands on John's cheeks. "I saw something flash in your eyes; hope, maybe. Whatever it was, I knew its was you. The real you." He rambled, still looking into John's eyes.
Worry splashed across John's face when he finally noticed Alexander wincing with each breath. "Wh-what did I do? I didn't hurt you...did I?"
Alexander didn't answer, just responded with a sad smile and brought his hands down to John's and held them gently. Lafayette answered John's question with a sigh. "You were working with Thomas Jefferson."
John looked at Lafayette, shocked. "W-what? No, no, not possible. I would never work with him!"
"That's what I thought before I saw him at your house." Alexander said.
Before he could say anything else, Lafayette cut in. "You hit me and tied me to a chair."
John just looked at the two, not believing what they were saying. Him? Working with Thomas? Unbelievable! He couldn't think of what to say other than no, which he said over an over while shaking his head. He looked up at Alexander, looking to see if maybe he was joking. He didn't see it. The shock grew as he realized.
They were telling the truth.
