--Meanwhile--
Once the doctor discharged Alexander, John helped him get down off of the bed and into a hospital wheelchair. As John wheeled Alexander through the waiting room, he whispered in his ear, making Alexander smile.
Lafayette caught up with the two and walked along side them out the doors and to his car.
John helped Alexander get into Lafayette's dark blue Bugatti and got in after. Before turning on the car, John noticed Lafayette straightening the alligator plushie on his dashboard. He rolled his eyes, catching the attention of the driver.
"Mon ami, don't look at me like zat, your house is filled with tortues."
Alexander chuckled then groaned, regretting his decision to react. It's funny though cause it's true. He thought to himself.
"Hmph." John crossed his arms and stuck his tongue out at Lafayette through the rearview mirror then laughed.
On the car ride back to Lafayette's apartment, Alexander sat staring out the window of the backseat, his hand holding John's with their fingers intertwined.
As he watched the scenery and cars pass by, his mind went a mile a minute as he thought about what happened in such a short time.
Of course he was elated that John felt the same way he did, and that his profession saved the man he loved, but he couldn't stop thinking about and feeling like he had to protect John now, so the same thing wouldn't happen again. He already thought before that he had lost John, and he couldn't bear to think of that happening again, that time for real and forever.
He shook his head and diverted his thoughts back to John as he turned his head, watching him attempt to fix his now messy, curly hair that was still in the same ponytail it usually was in.
His chest warmed and he smiled, imagining how life would be with them together now.
John stopped messing with his hair when he noticed Alexander staring at him and smiling. He turned his head towards him and smiled, adding a wink. Alexander blushed and tried to hide his face, but one of his hands were still being held by the freckled man next to him.
John chuckled lightly at seeing Alexander try to hide his blushing face with only one hand. This dork, he thought, is one of the best things to happen to me.
Once Lafayette stopped at a stop light, John thought it was a good opportunity to do something simple, yet sweet.
He leaned over and kissed Alexander's cheek.
