A string of groans and cuss words in both English and French emerged from Thomas as he tried to move Alexander off of him at the edge of the sidewalk.
John ran up to the two, yelling at Alexander to stop. He tried to pry Alexander off of Thomas but to no avail. John looked around and saw George Washington looking at his phone while walking on the other side of the street.
"Mr. Washington!" John yelled, trying to get his attention.
Mr. Washington looked up and almost dropped his phone. He looked both ways and ran across the street to get to the one-sided wrestling match including Alexander, his foster son, and Thomas Jefferson.
Mr. Washington put his briefcase down on the sidewalk and put his phone away. "Alexander! What are you doing!?"
Among the continuing string of cuss words, Alexander yelled out "It's all his fault!" two or three times.
Mr. Washington reached down and forcefully ripped Alexander off of Thomas, holding him upright and back so that Thomas could stand up.
"Son, you better tell me what's going on between you two this time." Mr. Washington said as he held Alexander by the shoulders and looked down at him.
"It's all his fault, Washington. I know it's all his fault. He tried to convince me he cared about us and was glad to see that John was okay but I honestly don't believe that." Alexander rambled on and Thomas interjected and began to argue with him.
Mr. Washington looked over at John, who looked worried and like he could cry, and looked back over at the others, who were now screaming in each other's faces.
"ALL RIGHT THAT'S ENOUGH, BOYS!" Mr. Washington shouted, stopping the two before seemingly ripping each other's heads off. "Now, quit screaming at each other for five minutes and let me listen to what John has to say about this."
"But-" Alexander was cut off by a cold glare from Mr. Washington. He turned and looked over at John.
"Go ahead, John. Maybe you can tell me what's going on between those two." Mr. Washington said kindly.
"I-I only know what I was told b-because I don't remember what happened." John stuttered and sniffed.
"Okay, good. What were you told that happened?"
John explained to Mr. Washington everything he was told and remembered from the event where he was apparently possessed by some sort of demon. He rubbed his eyes and sniffed again when he finished.
Mr. Washington looked over at Alexander once again. "Now why do you think it's Thomas's fault? Without rambling, please."
Alexander sighed. "Because when Lafayette went to John's house to talk to him after Not-John made me start crying, Not-John was talking to and working with Thomas until I made John snap out of it. John was shocked to hear that he was working with Thomas so it gave me good reason to believe that it was Thomas's fault."
Mr. Washington sighed. "Thomas, is it true that you came here to see if they were okay and to apologize?"
"Yes."
