**Small Trigger Warning!: family homophobia and threats of violence**

John and Alexander jumped back with surprise. The man who shouted, to John's horror, was his father, Henry, back home from a "business trip" (meaning he was gone to who knows where with alcohol and women for a month, which occurred around 4-5 times a year, depending on his mood.

"Father!?"

"What in Heaven's name do you think you're doing, boy?!" He shouted, fuming with more than likely drunk anger.

"I-I can explain!"

"I think I know full well what you're doing, Johnathan! How dare you do such vile, horrid, harrowing things in my house!" Henry Laurens yelled in disgust.

"Mr. Laurens, I--"

"Don't you speak to me, Hamilton! And step away from my son! You're just like your father; a no good, dirty sinner, who tried to get with my wife!" He looked back over at John. "And Johnathan! If your mother was alive and could see you right now, she would be just as furious."

John mumbled something, putting his guitar down.

"What did you say to me, boy?" Henry growled.

John took a deep breath, clenching his fists. "I said, 'No, she wouldn't'. If mother saw me, how happy I am, she would be proud! She was nothing like you, and thank the Lord for that! And James Hamilton never tried to get with her, you were just paranoid because you were off trying to get with Alexander's mother!"

"Are you suggesting you know more about my wife than I do?" He growled.

"I know my own mother more than you ever did! And don't think I don't know what your "business trips" are! My siblings are lucky they don't have to live with you anymore! I sure wish I didn't!" John yelled.

"You're going to pay for those words, boy! I will not have a.." Henry hesitated, "homosexual living under my roof! I'll fix you right up, Johnathan!"

Henry stepped closer to John, and the smell of alcohol and stale cigarettes filled the room. He raised his hand at John, but stopped when Alexander stepped in front and blocked his path. "Get out of the way, Hamilton, or you'll regret it."

"No! I won't let you hurt him!" Alexander yelled at the drunk man, shielding John.

"And why not? Hm? Do you need to be fixed too?" Henry raised his hand higher.

"Because I love him!"
