John stepped in front of Alexander, pulling him in to an embrace. "Don't worry, Alexander. I promise. I'm not going anywhere."

Alexander let the tears flow as he held onto John. Mr. Washington nodded at John and turned on his heels, beginning to walk away.

John pulled back slightly and leaned his forehead against Alexander's, closing his eyes. A gust of wind blew past the two, and Alexander shivered slightly.

"Come on, let's go inside." John grabbed Alexander's hand again and the two walked back into John's big house. Alexander rubbed his eyes as he looked around at the many pictures and trinkets lining the walls of the living room.

He walked towards one of the family photos on the wall above the fireplace. John's father, Henry Laurens, stood in the back, a serious expression on his face. His mother, Eleanor, stood next to him with a sweet smile, her hands on Henry Jr.'s shoulders, who wore a half-smile. Sitting next to Jr. were Martha and James, with Mary sitting in the front of the photo. Alexander smiled and looked at the freckled, curly-haired family, smiling wider when his eyes moved over to the photographed face of his boyfriend, John.

As if he knew what Alexander was thinking, John spoke up. "No, that's a horrible old picture." John walked up behind the shorter man and leaned his chin on his shoulder.

"I think it's a great picture of your family. The camera really brought out those freckles." Alexander chuckled. John smiled and wrapped his arms around him.

John turned his head and kissed Alexander's cheek, gaining a big blushing smile from Alexander in response. He covered his face with his hands which made John start giggling.

The two stood there, Alexander with his hands still on his face, and John still smiling, until they heard a knock at the door. The mood changed to confusion as John walked over to the window to see who it was. Martha Manning.

John walked over to the door and opened it, revealing a thin woman, shorter than even Alexander, with tears in her eyes.

"Martha? What's the matter?" John asked.

Martha shook her head and smacked John's face. John stood there in shock, with his hand touching his cheek, and Alexander began fuming.

"Wh-what did I do?!"

"You know exactly what you did, John."

John shook his head with confusion. Martha looked over at Alexander. "So it's you? You're the reason he did that to me? I ought to smack you as well."

Alexander looked at John quizzically, then worry struck his face.

"John...What did you do?"
