"I still don't believe you." Alexander said, crossing his arms.

"Alex, I know you and Thomas have had this....rivalry for a very long time." Mr. Washington said calmly. "But would you please explain to me why you don't believe him?"

Alexander stayed quiet, glaring at his feet.

"Son?"

Alexander continued looking down, and mumbled something.

"Say again, but a little louder." Mr. Washington crossed his arms.

"I said...." Alexander's voice grew louder. "I'm not your son."

"Excuse me?"

An 'ooh' sound emerged from Thomas's direction, followed by a chuckle, resulting in a quick glare from Alexander.

Alexander looked back over and up at Mr. Washington. "I'm not your son. You are not my father."

Mr. Washington fumed, annoyed at Alexander. This wasn't the first time they've had this conversation.

"Alexander. We've talked about this." Mr. Washington tried to say calmly.

"Well maybe we should talk about it again!" Alexander half-yelled, throwing his arms down.

John stepped up closer to the pair. "Alexander..." He said quietly.

Mr. Washington sighed angrily. "Young man, we have discussed this before."

"Oh sh--"

"Thomas!" Mr. Washington spun his head towards Thomas and glared at him. Thomas threw up his hands in defeat and took a step back.

Mr. Washington sighed again and looked back down at Alexander. "Son, you and I both know what happened."

"That doesn't make you my father." Alexander mumbled, crossing his arms again.

"Alexander Hamilton, your mother Rachel died when you were twelve. Two years before that, your father, James Hamilton, left you and your mother to die. I may not be your biological father, but I am the closest thing you got to having a father.

I took you in after your cousin killed himself because you had nowhere else to go and you needed help."

Alexander blinked away tears and turned his head. The group stayed quiet for a few seconds until Thomas spoke up.

"Well, uh...guess I oughta get goin'. Madison's starting to get sick." Thomas backed away and spun on his heels.

"Maybe that's best, Thomas." Mr. Washington said, not looking away from Alexander as Thomas walked away with his hands in his pockets.

Tears began to run down Alexander's cheeks as he let his arms fall down to his sides.

John reached out and grabbed Alexander's hand, intertwining their fingers while stepping closer.

Alexander closed his eyes and tilted his head down, silently crying. He gently squeezed John's hand, whispering.

"Promise me you won't go away again....please..."
