"So what's the plan for today?" I ask Tooru, leaning my head against his shoulder while we sit together on his plush couch.
"This is as far as I've planned," he smirks, referring to the cartoons playing, and the toddler sitting in my lap, his eyes eagerly following the display on the screen. Normally he doesn't get too much time watching tv, especially not on one as large as this. This one makes ours look like a microwave, which to be fair isn't far from the actual size. Tooru's flatscreen with high quality, make all the difference in Seiji's cartoons, at least according to him. I don't think I've ever paid enough attention to notice a difference. Whenever the tv is on, my mind is usually off wandering somewhere else. Like today.
"We could go to the park," Tooru suggests, his eyes looking down towards me, awaiting my response.
I contemplate his suggestion for a moment, taking into account the heat, and my lack of motivation to be out and walking around in it. Not to mention the trip back home to snag a stroller, especially considering that Tooru wouldn't take us to just some neighborhood park. Everything has to be an adventure with him, which makes things exciting, but also tiring at times. Maybe it's just for the best to stay home all day and do nothing. It's been a while since I've had the luxury of that.
"Or we could go swimming instead," he offers, and immediately Seiji turns around to face him.
"Swim?" Seiji gasps, barely able to contain his excitement, "I want to go swim!"
I know right away, my dreams of doing nothing are crushed. Once you offer swimming as an option, there's no way of changing the boys mind. He's been in love with swimming since the day I put him in water. He was never the kid who was afraid of it, or was scared to try swimming. He barely even wants to wear floaties, but I manage to force him to, so I can spare my sanity. Not that he could survive without them anyhow.
"If that's okay with your mom," Tooru chuckles, looking to me for confirmation.
I nod my head, knowing that saying no wouldn't be worth trying to convince Seiji to do something else. Sometimes you've got to let the kid win, just to spare your energy. Because, while he seems to have endless amounts of it, I certainly don't. Even for someone my age, still young, having a kid to take care of is draining in aspects that most of my peers cannot comprehend. Even Tooru doesn't seem to understand the work that goes into it. While he can appreciate that parenthood is hard-work, that's different from doing the work yourself. But I must admit, he seems to be carrying himself extremely well so far, which from him, I wouldn't expect much less.
Seiji excitedly jumps up from the couch, nearly knocking his cup from the coffee table in front of him, I remind him to be careful, and give a playful swat on the butt, before telling him to go gather his things. He does as he's told, picking up a stray toy or two from around the space.
"You're really fine with swimming?" Tooru asks, dubious.
I nod again, "If that's what you two would like, who am I to protest," I smile.
The smile is returned by the brunette, as my eyes wander over his face. My eyes catch his strong jaw, and light brown eyes, and suddenly I'm entranced. My hand grazes his thigh, as he brings his hand to cover mine. His opposite hand shifts from around my shoulder, and makes its way into my hair, tousling it gently around the base of my neck. My lips part slightly as I lean in closer to him, his lips which were turned upwards into a smile are now mirroring mine. With our faces inches apart, the tension swells in my stomach, waiting for him to make a move. When he waits longer than I'd like, I close the gap between us myself. Our lips lock onto one another's lightly and softly, but still just as passionate as all the times previously. I smile into the kiss as we're beginning to part, and I sigh slightly as I take a breath of air. He smiles back at me once again, as I return my head to its spot on his shoulder, my eyes wandering to the tv. His hand finds its way around my waist, and we sit comfortably, him holding me as we wait for Seiji to finish whatever it is that's taking him so long.
